Presenting DUST OF OSIRIS, watercolor and ink, 12x12”. Inspired by the Egyptian decorative motifs, the Egyptian Revival movement, and a high-res photo of the opened OSIRIS-REx sample container, containing dust from asteroid Bennu. This has been a labor of love for me, I hope you enjoy it!
Nearly done with the ink/gold portion of the #osirisrex#wip. Next up, decorative precious stone inlay (in paint, both figuratively and LITERALLY thanks to my Daniel Smith PrimaTek #watercolors), a golden center, and finally, asteroid samples!
Finished! DIANA PIERCES THE AZURE SKY, 9x12”, ink and watercolor on illustration board. Inspired by a photo of Apollo 4, the first launch of the Saturn V rocket on Nov. 9, 1967 from Kennedy Space Center.
A few days’ progress on the Saturn V launch piece, finishing the tower and the rocket, the exhaust using Ferris Wheel Press PLAITED GOLD TRESS, and foreground pad structure in ATLAS IRON ORE.
Excited to (finally!) announce that my artwork FAREWELL TO BENNU is on the back cover of The Planetary Society’s December 2023 issue of THE PLANETARY REPORT!
Today’s #SpacetoberChallenge is #Future! VOYAGE TO THE TWO ASTEROIDS is a whimsical #watercolor#painting of the #DART mission about to redirect #asteroid Dimorphos. In my view, this mission demonstrating asteroid redirection is the future of planetary protection, and an incredible feat!
Today’s #SpacetoberChallenge is #Launch! STARSHIP SPECTRUM is a #watercolor#painting of the first SpaceX Starship launch on April 20, 2023, based on a spectacular photo by Trevor Mahlmann 🤩🚀🌈
Happy Moon Landing Day and #InternationalMoonDay !!! The Apollo program and Moon exploration is a life-long obsession of mine. I’m so excited for our return on Artemis 2 and 3!
What’s on deck this morning? A #HiRise image of amazing folded #geologic rock formations on #Mars! I have five 8x8” paintings to do by Labor Day for the Central Art Gallery Square Show, so they might as well be space (or abstract depending on the viewer. 😂)
Finished! MINERAL MOON, 8x8”, watercolor on cotton. An enhanced color view of Sinus Iridum (Bay of Rainbows) and Mare Imbrium (Sea of Showers), showing the iron-rich (mafic) basalts in blues, with the iron-poor (felsic) rocks in oranges and browns.
Finished! “THE FUTURE IS HERE”, another view of the historic @SpaceX#Starship launch on 4/20/23. Watercolor and ink on cotton, 6x12”. The borders are painted in metallics, video to follow. (Also pictured: me.)
