Our Platy gave birth sometime in the weekend. We first noticed the fry on Saturday afternoon. Since then it's been mostly hiding behind the tank, around the plants. Today it started exploring towards the front of the aquarium so I could take a better video of it.
Platy fry looks transparent/lighter in color when first born. It should develop its color and looks brighter in a few more weeks. #platy#fishkeeping#aquarium#platyfry#aquariumdiary
Is Boston (MWRA-supplied) water more prone to algae blooms?
My humidifier turned bright green this morning. I’m cleaning it with citric acid solution per manufacturer instructions, but if I need to peroxide or C-brute the thing I will.
My knowledge of water quality only goes as far as “#NewHampshire water has brain amoebas, pack in your own,” so I thought I’d ask.
My Ancistrus sp. Calico finally grew to respectable size. I hope they will breed some day soon :)
I really don't get why they aren't more popular. I think they look fantastic (albeit the photo definitely doesn't do them justice. my iphone camera changes too many colors).
Keeping #dolphins, #orcas and other cetaceans in #captivity is cruel. Depriving them of the vast open spaces and social bonds that they would normally have in the wild, and confining them to small, concrete #tanks to perform tricks for dead fish is highly unethical for these complex marine mammals. No matter how sophisticated the enclosure, no man made facility can ever hope to replicate the wild world of dolphins and whales.
END ALL CAPTURES OF DOLPHINS FOR PUBLIC DISPLAY IN U.S. TERRITORIAL WATERS
There has not been a dolphin capture for public display in U.S. Territorial waters since 1993 due to the #MarineMammalProtectionAct. It's incredibly difficult for an #aquarium to obtain permits to capture #dolphins humanely, but unfortunately it is still not considered illegal. We need an amendment of the MMPA to include a clause that will end the #capture of dolphins for public display.
#throwbackthursday Another photo from our Quebec City Aquarium visit in 2016. Grabbed this photo as my young daughter was crashing into me in the dark! 😂
There has been a file sitting on my computer for the last couple of days. Every now and then I go and add a few more googly eyes, then go and do something else.
Had a "what am I doing moment?!" and just generated the file, thinking I'd just ditch it, but now I'm tempted to try and get a better loop and do it properly 😆

So I got this piece of driftwood but it wouldn't sink to the bottom, and I already soaked it in a bucket for days.
Maybe I just have to go for the floating upside-down/antigravity look? #aquascape#aquarium#fishkeeping
