On the bros trying to build cities in Solano and elsewhere:

“What seems to be happening is people really want to ‘stay in San Francisco,’ but they want to exit society. … They don’t want to have to deal with the complexity, the differences, the poverty, the needs, the caring for others that was always part of urban culture. They want to escape. They want their own currency, their own culture, their own people. And they wanted it to look like Disneyland.”

In more bizarre Atari news – when has it not been bizarre lately – they’ve just revived Infogrames.

Wait. Isn’t the current Atari just a renaming of Infogrames?

Yes and no. Back in 2003, Infogrames bought Atari Corporation’s assets from Hasbro. They quickly renamed themselves Atari. But this wasn’t just a rebranding, they bought Atari’s decades-old IP as well – which includes Yars Revenge, Missile Command, Lunar Lander and others.

Unfortunately, this re-made Atari squandered this IP and instead tried to become a AAA publisher. They did manage to publish some landmark titles such as Unreal Tournament 2003, Neverwinter Nights, and Rollercoaster Tycoon. However, they were more known for shovelware and critically-panned games.

Eventually, they went bankrupt and had to sell off most of their prized AAA assets. This meant that they were mostly only left with their old Atari IP – which has been languishing for decades.

However, they still own some old Infogrames IP. Blood is one such example, and that game is stellar. Nightdive Studios even did a remake of it, and they did a good job too.

So what is Atari going to do with Infogrames? Use it to publish games that fall outside of the core Atari brand. The first game on the docket is Totally Reliable Delivery Service.

Medvedev threatens Russia may seize private US assets if Washington seizes frozen Russian reserves

Russia could seize assets and property of U.S. individuals held in Russia if Washington confiscates Russian sovereign assets, Dmitry Medvedev, the deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council, threatened on April 27.

DEAL ALERT!!

XCOM 2 is currently -95% off on Steam.

At regular price, it is C$79.99. But today, it is C$3.99.

This is the sequel to XCOM: Enemy Unknown. It is a turn-based strategy game that not only has excellent reviews, many people regarded it as the best strategy game of 2016.

I just bought it!

I was feeling nostalgic for UFO: Aftermath.

Today, though, nostalgia kind of sucks. Actually, it’s excruciating like fingernails on a chalkboard.

I remember UFO as a tactical RPG that’s a hybrid between an turn-based and real-time strategy game. Instead of waiting for a turn or moving as things happen, you move according to a timer. On first experience, it seemed neat.

The problem is, every time I mean to do something, I get interrupted. Usually, it’s from an enemy appearing. This would be fine except, every time a new enemy appears, UFO decides to give me a 360 degree view of the enemy because they apparently want to impress me with their character models.

I guess for 2003, they’re impressive. But here in 2024, it takes me out of the flow of the game. It’s so annoying that if I had a physical copy of UFO: Aftermath, I’d take it out into my backyard and shoot it myself. That’s how frustrating that is.

The other annoyance is that when I’m at the mission screen, I keep being pinged about new missions when I’m on my way to my current one. And apparently, I can’t just accept a mission. No, I have to travel there. And as I’m travelling, I keep getting nagged and nagged again that there’s aliens that have popped up somewhere on Earth.

Back in 2016 – when I first bought it – I used to like this game. It was unique and quirky to me. Today, I think this is one of those games that I’d like to forget.

Thread about how we had “3D printed” houses over a hundred years ago.

Unlike the ones today these actually existed and were very affordable (think $6,000 in today’s money for a complete 1-bedroom house).
