Baby rolling around in the pine needles. Here I’m spying through the flower bed. I believe that adult ground squirrel is an Aunt or something and the babies mom is an injured squirrel. She’s not watching the babies properly so I sat with this brave baby who wanted to sit in the sunshine all day. Hopefully mom can recover 🍀

I hadn’t visited with the raccoons for a while because it’s been too cold but we’re having a spurt of balmy weather so I sat with them last night 😃 Everybody looks healthy, no missing ears or tails etc. This one is my favorite ❤️

Big Boy Pete the fox squirrel now pauses on the same branch, facing the camera with one front paw tucked up to his chest. He pauses for his picture before leaping down onto the fence.
Louise the ground squirrel has come in through a hole in the fence and pops up out of the ivy curiously, both paws tucked to her chest and her snout raised, sniffing out the food.

A rather unusual visitor to the yard. A dapper Lincoln’s sparrow stands on the fence facing away but looking back over its shoulder. Streaked in all different shades of warm browns and it’s little crest raised up, it’s coloring makes me think of a tweed suit. Ivy is framing the sparrow in the foreground with wet foilage in the background.
A very cute wild bun, who is NOT Thelma, comes to eat seed off the ground during a break in the rain. She looks quite a lot like Thelma but is smaller, maybe this is a relative?
One of the crows observes me from up in the pine. There was barely enough light for this photo. Its upper body is visible with a branch curving in front that has most of the bark picked off. The crow has a mischievous expression on its face and a muddy beak, clearly it’s been up to something. Mossy twigs and pine branches in the background.

Louise was trying to pull the decoupage off this chair for her her burrow so I set out colorful tissue paper for her which she immediately snatched up. I like to imagine how festive her burrow looks now 😃

Yesterday the backyard was all abuzz because a great horned owl came to visit us 😲 He stayed with us the entire day.
