Planning a date night with my girls...

We're going to print out our favorite fanfics and then learn how to bind books and make them into hardcover books!

Day 1 challenge: Choose 20 that greatly influenced you. One per day, for 20 days. No explanations, no reviews, just covers

(I've already been doing this over on Bluesky and am several days in, so I'm going to do my best to not get mixed up on the days I'm on 😆) @horrorbooks @bookstadon

It's a banner day for books!

Happy publication day, Karen Yin (@karenyin)!

As I said in my blurb, this is "An essential resource for writers and editors who want to get up to speed on writing with empathy and care."

Collect ARCs? Like debut YA horror that's fun and kind of Stranger Things-esque? Maybe go sign up for my monthly author newsletter at nicolewolverton.com -- because at the end of this month I'll be randomly choosing one lucky newsletter subscriber to receive this box (no pollen from yard included, I swear!).

Hey, who wants to see me almost disembowel myself while revealing the sprayed-edge version of A MISFORTUNE OF LAKE MONSTERS? Doh.

@bookstodon

middle aged blonde gleefully and gracelessly unboxes a sprayed-edge version of A MISFORTUNE OF LAKE MONSTERS.

@nicolewolverton @bookstodon Wow, this looks absolutely stunning! I love when authors and publishers go the extra mile with their special editions. The attention to detail in the presentation makes it even more exciting to dive into the story.

Doggo and I are living our best life.

Kobo sent out a list of books for Asian Heritage Month so I bought a few, and put a few more on hold at the library.

Was lucky enough to get WELCOME TO THE HYUNAM-DONG BOOKSHOP as a "skip the line" loan. A few chapters in and I'm vibing so hard with it.

Read as a whole body of work (which has taken me many months) Gerard Manley Hopkins’s poetry is a tragic and audacious testament to an extraordinary creative spirit.

Let's try this: , I've been surprised at the lack of (or at least my inability to find) quality / stories and for kids. What are the best free parenting resources you've found?

I finished Olivia Atwater’s The Witchwood Knot this evening and it was just very delightful to be back within her magical human faerie world again. I’m pleased there will be more books in this series.

I’ve been enjoying a lot of faerie / fae / fair folk books lately - another one was heather fawcett’s emily wilde's encyclopaedia of faeries.

I wonder if anyone has any other recommendations in that zone @bookstodon

@meshell @bookstodon 🤦‍♀️ Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell of course, but you’ve probably read that one

@meshell @bookstodon similar but perhaps slightly different spin would be Modern Faerie Tales by Holly Black, if you haven't already read them. I quite liked most of the ones I remember.

It’s easier to make a baby than it is to make a cake.

-Harold, a character in a book by that name, by Steven Wright.
It’s like reading a standup routine by Wright, presented by an average 3rd-grader, growing up in the 60s.
If you like Steven Wright, I invite you to try this book. It’s hard not to hear it in Steven’s voice, but that’s on me.

I guess animals are into bestiality?
-Harold again. But what 3rd-grader knows about bestiality?

Hey, : maybe put this event on your calendar! I'll be talking to Sal Goldenberg on May 3 at A Novel Idea on Passyunk Avenue about her new book The Last Phi Hunter, asking her questions about bookcraft (including Thai folklore and ghosts) and publishing. I'd love to see you there!

Been having such a hard time getting into a book lately. I was reading a ton before vacation, and then not as much while I was away because I was having so much fun doing other things.

Now I can't seem to settle into a book. Even ones that I was really looking forward to.

New read, re-read... nothing's doing it. Idk.

I think tonight I'll attempt the Star Trek book about Tilly's teenage years.

So I'm still obsessed with Arboreality - and this review by Dana McFarland in The British Columbia Review really captures what I loved about this book. I don't always love reading book reviews, but this one is great.

TFW you think, “I really ought to read that novel,” and you go into Amazon, find that book’s product page, and Amazon displays a text bar at the top of the page saying “You bought this on so and so date in 2014” and you go “I did?” and a moment later “Oh yeah I guess I did” and then a moment later “I wonder where it is” and then spend the rest of the day sifting through 4000 books stuffed into dusty bookshelves wondering where it is…
