Read as a whole body of work (which has taken me many months) Gerard Manley Hopkins’s poetry is a tragic and audacious testament to an extraordinary creative spirit. #gerardmanleyhopkins#poetry#books#bookstadon@bookstadon
I finished Olivia Atwater’s The Witchwood Knot this evening and it was just very delightful to be back within her magical human faerie world again. I’m pleased there will be more books in this series.
I’ve been enjoying a lot of faerie / fae / fair folk books lately - another one was heather fawcett’s emily wilde's encyclopaedia of faeries.
It’s easier to make a baby than it is to make a cake.
-Harold, a character in a book by that name, by Steven Wright.
It’s like reading a standup routine by Wright, presented by an average 3rd-grader, growing up in the 60s.
If you like Steven Wright, I invite you to try this book. It’s hard not to hear it in Steven’s voice, but that’s on me. #bookstadon
I guess animals are into bestiality?
-Harold again. But what 3rd-grader knows about bestiality?
Hey, #Philly: maybe put this event on your calendar! I'll be talking to Sal Goldenberg on May 3 at A Novel Idea on Passyunk Avenue about her new book The Last Phi Hunter, asking her questions about bookcraft (including Thai folklore and ghosts) and publishing. I'd love to see you there!
Been having such a hard time getting into a book lately. I was reading a ton before vacation, and then not as much while I was away because I was having so much fun doing other things.
Now I can't seem to settle into a book. Even ones that I was really looking forward to.
New read, re-read... nothing's doing it. Idk.
I think tonight I'll attempt the Star Trek book about Tilly's teenage years.
So I'm still obsessed with Arboreality - and this review by Dana McFarland in The British Columbia Review really captures what I loved about this book. I don't always love reading book reviews, but this one is great. https://thebcreview.ca/2024/04/04/2122-mcfarland-campbell/
TFW you think, “I really ought to read that novel,” and you go into Amazon, find that book’s product page, and Amazon displays a text bar at the top of the page saying “You bought this on so and so date in 2014” and you go “I did?” and a moment later “Oh yeah I guess I did” and then a moment later “I wonder where it is” and then spend the rest of the day sifting through 4000 books stuffed into dusty bookshelves wondering where it is…
This week, I learned all about audiobook narration from David H. Lawrence, a professional actor and audiobook narrator who helps authors narrate their own books.
If you've ever dreamed of being a narrator — or wondered what it's like — this episode is for you!

"... two tortured peoples: ...Israelis and Palestinians... neither side is capable of viewing the other’s tragedy with a shred of understanding — not to mention compassion.
One more shameful phenomenon... Israel is the one country in the world whose elimination is most openly called for.
'Medusa’s Sisters' is the debut novel of Boston author Lauren J. A. Bear, and follows the lesser known sisters of Medusa from birth and past the death of their beloved sister. #books#bookstadon#mythology
If you like your romances dark, intense and violent, read Devil's Own. Because when a deal’s made with The Devil, someone always has to pay.
By 51, Miranda Fleming had become a world famous artist. She lacked nothing, except a relationship. In fact, in her entire dating life not one man had ever asked for a third date. She often joked she was the oldest living virgin.
He's the actual Devil! Satan. Lucifer, the Antichrist, the Beast. So many names, the list went on and on. A taker of souls, a dealer of desires and greed, the ultimate evil.
And now it was time to collect on the deal made about Miranda years ago. He’d kept her pure since then, just so he could torment and torture her.
That is, until he tires of her. https://www.evernightpublishing.com/devils-own-by-suzy-shearer/ https://www.amazon.com/dp/B095XGQ2HZ/
