Before designing a website, or even making a small change to an existing one, ask if your design choices consider the needs of people with color blindness. Changing the button color on your website may seem insignificant, but it could make that website inaccessible to nearly 8% of men and 0.4% of women who have color blindness.

I have colour vision deficiency, often mistakenly called colour blindness (I can see colours).

If you are like me you might struggle to see anything but dots here

For several years I've written help guides for employers and colleagues on including people like me but I've never written anything publicly.

Until now.

I participated in the project by writing software to convert color into sound.

I find the aesthetic in much of his work close to creative coding. You can enjoy it in this online book:

Color accessibility is more than just ticking boxes. Even with good contrast, some color palettes can make interfaces challenging for users. Here are some practical guidelines to ensure more inclusive design for colorblind people.

For my international audience (because i can't believe my #German audience could have missed this).

After the recent #antifascist #antifa demonstations there has been a popularisation of the #antifasticker meme. People from all walks of live appropriate symbols from their lived experience and combine it with the antifascist logo for something amusing. Here are some samples with alt-texts providing a translation/explanation. A thread 🧵1/10 : #WorkerRights

that is apparently massively accessible

  • Blind Drive Assist with audio cues for visually impaired people
  • Text-to-Speech & Speech-to-Text for hearing impaired people
  • Color-blindness adjustments
  • One touch driving for physically impaired people

Don't let any Studio tell you it's impossible to create accessible games!

I u derstand that being colour blind is a horrible thing to have to out up with, especially in our modern world where "smart" devices are everywhere and almost every icon or button uses colour to indicate function, but please, 𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦 watch this video before splashing out big money on a pair of glasses advertised to help correct colour blindness.

tldw: They're a scam. All of them.

The video goes through the claims, the testimonies, the influencers, and the companies themselves. It's well worth the watch.

I’m colorblind - I see in color but can’t distinguish many shades. The boost button here is hard for me to distinguish the difference between already boosted and ready to boost. Does anyone else have that challenge / issue?

Today is my day for a flurry of posts about issues.

It ties in nicely with research.

According to mom my grandfather irritated gran when he complimented her red hat.

My male cousins and me each had reduced career choice ... I couldn't do chemistry, Dave couldn't join the police, Richard couldn't be an electrician.

None of us saw the brown ball on the snooker table. Nor the pink. Nor the green.

And the colour dots aren't much use at all.
