Microsoft's Aspire framework looks cool to manage simple application with few dependencies.

It allows to write in application code the dependencies, and when deployed they start automatically.

For example if you add dependency to PostgreSQL or Redis then when started it starts it. Locally it uses K8s, but apparently when deployed to Azure it can use containers or services.

No need to write YAML, just pure C# & Nuget to get external services working.

Reimagining how to deploy my applications to . Turn between sub chart and Operator style. Requirements:

  • A way to pick up configuration from the code (cronjobs, queue workers/vhosts so deployments etc) and transform that to to resource changes
  • No Helm plugins etc
  • The possibility to run things either all in one pod or to split them out into different deployments/cronjobs depending on the project needs

It's about time we do some actual native

I didn't do it for the algorithm, I did it because I loved every minute of it. (Well, after I got it working)

So picking up an A380 seemed like a good idea at the time to get a reasonably cheap, low-profile GPU with AV1 support that can run off bus power alone.

It seemed like a slam-dunk for my cluster to be able run in a VM and allow myself to edit my videos with a bit more portability.

Unfortunately I didn't do my own research, and the consumer discrete GPUs don't play particularly nicely with virtualisation. Intel has seemingly intentionally gimped the consumer Arc cards by removing virtualisation support, while their data centre GPU line on almost identical silicon support it.

There's ways around all of that, which I think I've just about worked out, but the Intel drivers (i915) don't play particularly well with Linux guests either, which has given me a whole new set of challenges to solve.

All in all, it's be a fun three days, with I'm sure another fun three days of trial and error ahead.

It was glorious spending IRL time with old & new friends from #OpenSource / #Kubernetes / #Rust #RustLang / #Mastodon communities. I’m back in #NYC now!

I’m still processing everything, but I noticed some commonalities in the kinds of challenges #contributors are facing during this 2024 lonely burnout epoch (I’m not the only one who feels it right?)And I wonder if more #maintainers are facing them too.

So what are the toughest #community/ communications/ outreach challenges you’re tackling?
