According to the Economic Policy Institute, which is tracking the trend, 12 states have enacted laws in the last three years that roll back safety rules and regulations on hours and working conditions for workers under age 18. Arkansas allows employers to hire 14- and 15-year-olds without having to verify their ages or report their job conditions. Iowa permits children as young as 14 to work in industrial laundries and roofing and demolition jobs — occupations that federal law considers too hazardous for anyone younger than 18. Florida is among several states allowing 16- and 17-year-olds to work between 11 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. and for more than eight hours — even when they have school the next day. #ChildLabor #Labor #LaborLaws #Children #SaveTheChildren

some good news about BC Labour Laws around pay transparency! https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/gender-equity/pay-transparency-laws-in-bc

tl;dr

  • employers can't ask you how much you make currently
  • job postings open to BC residents must include pay range (as of Nov 1 2023)
  • it's illegal for employers to Make Problems™️ for you if you share your salary

Bonus: over the next 3 years, all employers with 50+ employees will have to release a Pay Transparency Report (details pending)

: are employers allowed to rewrite employees’ job description without the employees’ consent?

I’m hearing a lot about this happening at some places. The employees are just told their job descriptions are updated and they’re not given the chance to have a say in the this.

Is this legal? It seems shady as fuck.

I can’t imagine any other scenario (lease, mortgage, etc) in which this would be legal.

One of the most popular chains here in the area is . They have famous , very beefy hamburgers, my favorite , and a that's to die for. Their drive-thru lanes have always been packed (even before Covid).

They've also always had MUCH higher-than-average fast food .

Portillo's can afford to pay better , that's for sure. And their employees are among the most overworked & overstressed in the industry, from what I've seen.

It's currently owned by corporate giant , after founder Dick Portillo sold the company (including several smaller restaurants, like ) in 2014. went public in 2021.

My family has tended to be loyal customers, but we won't be crossing any picket lines, thank you-- not even for their chocolate cake.
