For a lot of our #fashernistas in this space, things only matter if they come from #mainstreaming this is obviously crap blinded behaver - but it's hard to communicate why, likely they can't see me ;)
I don’t always agree with George Monbiot’s analysis of things (though I have huge respect for the man for his research skills and integrity), but I think this piece on not blowing up pipelines is spot on.
We are having an increasing signal-to-noise problem as more #mainstreaming people flood back to the #openweb we need much stronger tools and myths and traditions to mediate this mess... shovels and composting comes to mind #OMN
So, I think I've dug as deeply into the #hachyderm drama as I need to, and settled on some conclusions.
Most basically, the best insights came from seeing conversations on another platform: discord.
Admins from both sides were talking. And as it's a chat platform, the engagement and conversation was clearly more direct, free, expressive and clarifying.
If the fediverse wants to be the new internet, seriously, it needs to growup and move on from just microblogging.
This is noise - the #Fediverse is over 40 codebases for this to be signal you would likely have to be talking about #mastodon and even then it's still kinda noise.
#mainstreaming is bringing a "signal-to-noise" issue to the #openweb this is not a big problem, but it is something we need to mediate.
By decentralizing at its core, it is important to not do the obvious #NGO thing and centralize round one codebase and one instances, this is so obviously a stupid thing to do for the #Fediverse and the #openweb, but as you say it's a good thing to do for #mainstreaming so let's talk balance BEFORE you push this out as damage.
So everyone is clear and responsible for their actions, in public #4opens
It's interesting that we are finding it hard to move past the "policing" of language use.
Do you think this is useful to think of as legacy "stupid" #postmodernism that nobody can be more right than anyone else, maybe this is a good example of the capture of the idea of imperialism
Would be funny if it did not matter, we have so much compost to shovel.
The #mainstreaming of #mastodon is bringing in meany groups with a diversity of agender, a lot of these are capitalism friendly, this is normal, the problem is when they HIDE this and pull on the #openweb dress, this is a problem. Best for people to be honest about their agendas, it helps sought through the mess to be composted.
#openweb culture comes from the principles and values of the early internet, where open standards and decentralized systems were prioritized over closed, proprietary ones. This culture is based on the idea of a free and open internet, where anyone can participate and create without the need for gatekeepers.
We need to think about the #mainstreaming of these issues' due to the increasing visibility and attention they are pushing in the wider public, move back to the #openweb.
With this shift in attention comes the risk of co-optation or watering down of the original values and principles. It is important to be on guard and maintain a healthy balance, ensuring that the voices and needs of communities are prioritized and that efforts are not insincere or ineffective.

@raucao if you wonder what the "problem" is? It's that for the last 40 years the domanet ideology has been neo-liberalism which has proven to be a #deathcult, look at #XR movement for factual information on this.
All the #dotcons are made as an image of this ideology and its also imbedded in different ways in all #FOSS projects unless people knowingly think in different non #mainstreaming ways.
