Putting the “You” in CPU https://cpu.land is awesome -- I'm already finding a lot of things that I didn't know, or hadn't fully understood (like that the #! shebang is a kernel feature, not a shell feature)

Also the design is impeccable (check out the 404 page!), can't believe the author (https://kognise.dev/ ) is 17. Definitely going to be following their work.

I'm so confused by looking at this and https://kognise.dev/#projects and https://kognise.dev/brand

At 17!!!

Amazing rather frankly.

Speaking of nice things folks did for me, here's how I filled a channel with 220+ amateur on it.
My friend Joe had a weekly dinner music gig at a local bar, just him, a mic, & his 335, every Sunday, and he let me do a song before he went on.
The owner closed for COVID and sold the place. It's done.
I kept doing a song a week, from home. I send him links, and he always returns kind words.

Managed to boot up my Raspberry Pi 4! It runs Python!
I didn't buy a display for it, so I hooked it up to my 49'' ultra wide monitor and managed to do a split display: one side of the monitor showing the Raspberry Pi, the other one for my MacBook pro.

mariatta,
@mariatta@fosstodon.org avatar

I got it to work!
I created a Python script to take a photo in Raspberry Pi, then using Flickr API, upload the photo to Flickr.
I've set a cron job to run this every hour, so we should see a new photo in 2 minutes!

Sample photos I took for testing

Pushed my code to GitHub in case anyone wants to check it out or try it for themselves. (MIT licensed)

New plan:

Google Photos doesn't have official Python client library, so I'm now thinking of uploading the photos to Flickr instead. The authentication flow seems simpler, and there are Python client libraries with good docs.

My husband really wants to check on his potato garden 🥹🥔 So now we moved it to the window.

Here's the current setup:
Clipped the webcam to the blinds. Raspberry Pi on the floor for now.

Despite only being validated in February, I think Group federation has been a smashing success for the Fediverse.

I use Fediverse groups every day.

And if you’re interacting with this post, so are you.

Fediverse groups even make Mastodon that much more extensible despite Mastodon itself not officially supporting groups yet.

If you have a project you've done this year that you're particularly proud of, post it here (photos, links, whatever you want). We'll end up with replies full of awesome projects!

@arturo182 I built up a ZX81+38 from MAHJONGG's PCB design (Modern recreation of the ZX81 using discrete 74xx chips instead of ULA), and created a custom mechanical keyboard, custom keycaps, and enclosure for it. An IO expansion and ROM customization are still ongoing projects.

ZX81+38 mainboard and mechanical keyboard (now with custom printed keycaps) in 3d printed enclosure (now with cover plate over keyboard).
Tascam handheld digital audio recorder being used to load a program on to the ZX81+38 via the tape interface.
ZX81+38 display (via scan converter on a Dell 1080p monitor) showing the listing of a BASIC program that plots a sine wave.

This year, I gave a special gift to some of my family members.

I digitized, or at least attempted to digitize, all 20 of the reel to reel recordings my late grandfather had done on his unit.

One of the reels had what was apparently a 1972/1974 Christmas day recording of the family opening presents, singing Christmas songs, and chatting together.
My grandfather smartly preserved that space in time, and I've now digitized it for future generations.

jasonnab,

At one part of the audio, I can hear what I'm sure sounds like an 8mm or Super8 home camera being used. We have those 8mm films still, they just need to be digitized.
I am then hoping to digitize (in 2023) those tapes, find the footage, and combine the small video portion, with the digitized audio portion; a small fully featured family home movie moment, preserved over almost 50 years later :)

Knowing when you're in over your head and recognizing when a project has gone off the rails are crucial aspects of successful project management. But what are the red flags to watch for to prevent project derailment and how can you tell if a project is doomed to fail—even before you start?

I have an old Gopro hero7 silver that has been sitting collecting dust in a drawer for the past 2 years. Went to check ebay, and they're worth ~250 used! If my memory serves me right, that's more than the original sale price. Should be able to sell it for future
