Kitten bugfix release:

Please upgrade to the latest release that fixes a regression introduced into sessions object with the latest JSDB¹/JSDF² upgrade:

https://codeberg.org/kitten/app/issues/177

Persisting arbitrary objects to sessions is a supported workflow and this regression broke that.

e.g., See the Kitten Count Sessions example: https://codeberg.org/kitten/app/src/branch/main/examples/kitten-count-sessions/index.page.js

tfw you apply a cumulative update in the development environment and funnily get an error that when you check the release notes, was fixed three updates previous. I hope I didn't screw myself here.

2024-05-10 13:04 a fix is proposed, which a bit later is confirmed to be working[2]; a msg stating "I'll send out the formal patch next week" follows a few hours later

2024-05-16 14:11 six days later the "Formal patch is still under internal review"[3]

Is this a regression on Fedora 40 that anyone else is seeing? Apps that launch full-screen are launching at @1x resolution even though my screen is set @2x. Un-maximizing the app fixes it.

So, my favorite pub no longer serves any snacks that are without animal cruelty.

They used to have "olives & feta" that could be ordered without the feta; apparently they now buy the olives with the animal cruelty pre-mixed in.

I'm looking for reviewers for two packages at the moment:

Automata (@pyOpenSci )
Review: https://github.com/pyOpenSci/software-submission/issues/152
Repo: https://github.com/caleb531/automata
A #Python library for simulating finite #automata, pushdown automata, and Turing machines.

Kirstine.jl
( @joss )
Review: https://github.com/openjournals/joss-reviews/issues/6193
Repo: https://sr.ht/~lsandig/Kirstine.jl
A #Julia package for Bayesian optimal experimental design with nonlinear regression models.

You'll be working with another reviewer to read and run the code, make sure it fills a basic checklist which usually only takes a few hours, and beyond that whatever youd like to focus on. Both of these are collaborative review processes where the goal is to help these packages be usable, well documented, and maintainable for the overall health of free scientific software.

Its fun, I promise! Happy to answer questions and boosts welcome.

Edit: feel free to volunteer as a reply here, DM me, or commenting on those issues! Anyone is welcome! Some experience with the language required, but other than that I can coach you through the rest.

Weird functional regression on Windows 11—I seem to have lost the ability to set distinctive wallpaper for each virtual desktop. I had four desktops on my Surface Laptop Go until I reset it a couple of weeks ago; same thing for my Surface Go that I reset and started using again this past weekend. Now, on both machines, changing any of them changes all of them.

I'm working on a text for the docs describing how to perform a bisection when facing a .

I just published a first draft: https://www.leemhuis.info/files/misc/How%20to%20bisect%20a%20Linux%20kernel%20regression%20%e2%80%94%20The%20Linux%20Kernel%20documentation.html

Would be great if a few people could take a closer look and provide feedback. Either here, by mail, or via changes & notes in this document: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Im7SPK0j6PUGQTSGZyCTSQv8h3S51EYsZuRRdyhfzto/edit?usp=sharing

Would be even better if a few people could play this through – but I guess chances are slim anyone seeing this currently has a need for that.

#8 Step away from stepwise

Thoughts: Pretty straightforward, don't use stepwise regression. It is atheoretical and can produce causal inference mistakes; it is also a misuse of p-values.
