The officials of the #Dubai #Customs recovered a live snake, a monkey's hand, a dead bird and eggs wrapped in cotton from his language, according to a report published in Arabic daily #EmaratAlYoum.

The authorities also seized spells, talismans, and various tools containing paper clippings and other things, all believed to be intended for use in #sorcery activities.

In the Goetia, Astaroth is a duke of Hell who encourages slothfulness and laziness. His breath stinks, and he loves to claim that he didn't really fall from Heaven; it was all a misunderstanding. Astaroth knows much about the past and future, and the liberal arts.

For centuries, university students dabbled in sorcery to rebel against their parents. Thus, many demons in the Goetia specialize in finding treasure and/or teaching academic disciplines such as science or literature. Quick money and acing tests appeal to students.

A hand of glory is a supposed artifact of European sorcery, often used to assist in robberies. It's the dried and pickled hand of a hanged criminal that holds a candle made from that criminal's fat. The candlelight temporarily paralyzes everyone save the person wielding the hand.

As the term "mancy" originally referred to divination, originally "necromancy" was less about raising zombies and more about using the dead to predict the future, such as by throwing bones, studying entrails, or summoning a prophetic ghost for questioning.

A nunnery was one of the few places a woman could go in the Middle Ages to receive an academic education. It's why in "Le Morte d'Arthur," King Arthur's sister Morgan le Fay learns her sorcery from being raised in a nunnery.

In a Scottish legend, Satan taught a group of young men sorcery on condition that he could devour the last student to leave. However, the last student tricked Satan into grabbing his shadow instead. Afterwards, that particular sorcerer didn't have a shadow.

Mom just saw Jehovah's Witnesses doing door to door recruiting outside & laughed when they looked at our house & skipped knocking on it. Mom's howling with laughter & telling me I should go ring my gong a couple times to see if they'll jump/run back to car. Last time JWs came to our door & wouldn't accept 'We're Taoists & not interested' answer - I stopped talking. Grabbed my gong, banged it & chanted 'Leave Now' in #Teochew, until they got scared & left. They never came back👍

Technically, what we call uppercase letters are termed "majuscule" and lowercase letters are termed "minuscule". Since common manual movable type typesetting stations usually kept the more frequently used type in a case closer to the user, and the less frequently used type in a different case at a higher level farther from the user, the terms upper case and lower case came into common usage.

I bet it's fascinating, though. Very few IT-adjacent fields have manuals that start "Keep arms and legs away from molten lead".

Although it might be seen more often in @cstross 's New Management-iverse.

I'm gradually working on disentangle myself from the ex bird app, which unfortunately means losing touch with some users

I'm also not following many people here, and I'm still figuring out this federated thing and how hashtags work here

Can anyone recommend decent folks to follow relating to topics of , , , and ? Oh, and also combating misinformation and conspiracism?

I’ll probably regret asking, but what are people’s preferred #ruby #authentication gems these days?

I’ve used but hated #devise. Have no opinions on #clearance. Really enjoyed #sorcery but it seems like there’s a v1 rewrite happening which I am always suspicious of. I have been reading up on #rodauth but since this is going to be a #rails app I’m hesitant to jam #roda into it. And does the answer change for an api-only app?

The answer is to suck it up and use devise isn’t it?
