I want to write a digital delay. Does anyone know of good info on how to use all-pass filters in delay lines for phase weirdness effects? Or any filters, really.
I'm planning on using a Teensy 4.x (Cortex-M7), so I won't have a lot of compute power.
This morning I glanced at a list of albums Brooklyn Vegan posted about for 2024 records so far this year, and there's a new FOUR TET record from March I feel like I would've missed had I not seen it there-- I hadn't heard about it.
Four Tet is of course Kieran Hebden from London and is some wild, weird and beautiful electronic stuff. There's some great synth and ambient sounds (and beats!) on this one.
'Three' will most likely be among my favorite albums of 2024.
There are some amazingly complex and sophisticated synthesisers which allow powerful in-depth synthesis which other synths simply cannot do
But the more the years go on, the more I’m of the opinion that the more complicated synths simply don’t afford the making of better music, and in many cases they fight against good sound and good music because the more complex detailed heroically-synthesised sounds become either the focus, or have too much importance attached, or worse, they have too much importance attached as far as the person making the sound is concerned, but nobody else really gives a crap or even notices that it’s such a complex and deliciously synthesised sound, they just don’t notice, but in the meantime, all the hard work in the composition has gone into these complex wonderfully created sounds that no other synthesiser could do
I know, you’re saying that as I own a Korg Opsix, isn’t that one of the most complex synths out there? Well, yes it is, but for one thing I’m completely at home with FM synthesis (having started on the Yamaha CX5M as my first actual synth that wasn’t a modular that I’d built myself (Digisound 80)) but that’s how I’m spotting this tendency – I’m now starting to not want to spend time on my own patches, which up to now was where most of the fun was, and starting to explore the much less capable and far simpler and more direct synths which are ‘just’ synthesisers, and not be afraid to put forward just basic synth sounds which almost any synth and any synthesist could have done #Synths
Gary Numan released Telekon, my favorite of his records, in 1980. It was the first vinyl I bought as a teen in the 90s. Hearing this intro track and the album that followed was mindblowing. Definitely listen to this whole record if you get a chance.
Here's "This Wreckage", the first song on Telekon, one of the best album opening tracks EVER:
Y'all know I'm not big on black metal, but being that it's Monday and I keep coming back to this one, it's probably a good one for #BlackMetalMonday.
LUST HAG is a solo project of Eleanor Harper - it's one woman feral black metal from Montana and it's pretty cool. There's some great synths and dynamics and interesting lyrics, etc.
Black metal fans, this is probably worth checking out.
I spotted @laamaa's post about his new album 'M8 II' on Friday but only just now had a chance to listen -- it's incredible. If you like chiptune or synthwave at ALL, this is a MUST hear (and his other stuff too). The melodies, and the dynamics, the tracks all flow so well. 🎹 🔥
my new Fysen EP releases this Friday and today we gonna have a listen party on Bandcamp. It will start at 7pm CET (Berlin) time. I will be available in the chat, if you wanna join please check here:
This version is still based on the original MIDI file, but is more of an #Electro beat with a bunch of added live-tweaked stuff, including a fairly restrained TD-3 bassline.
The second will be interesting for the #DIY electronics dweebs out there. Weird #drone#synths and effects for making long-form drone pieces. All built using the traditional soldering-components-to-nails-in-a-piece-of-wood technique:
Been putting this off for a few days, but here goes nothing. #intro#introduction
My name is Kaylie, though many just call me Fox. I’m a 36 going on 13 year old trans girl originally from the desert now residing in the Midwest with my girlfriend Wednesday and our three cats, Mia, Nala and Harley.
This account is my alt, with my main being found at @LavenderPawprints. Expect some cross posting between the two, with longer posts coming from this one thanks to the much larger character limitations. Also expect this one to be somewhat more personal at times.
I’m #autistic,, #VisuallyImpaired, hard of hearing, struggle with mental health and a bunch of other little things, but I prefer not to have my worth weighed out by the extensiveness of my disability and challenge list. To me, life is life and we all godda make the best of what we got.
So what are my interests?
Well, I’m a #musician who writes and records my own #music. I play mostly #guitars, #synths and #keyboards, but can hold my own with other things like percussions and the like. I can’t really play any wind instruments though. I done smoked too much in my time. :P
I also love reading and writing, mostly fantacy and science-fiction, but will read just about anything if it’s something that sounds good.
Academically, I study generative #AI as well as #Elementary#education. I’m a strong supporter of #YouthRights and #YouthLiberation and believe with all my heart that kids are an oppressed minority who deserve to be able to show us all that they are capable of much more than just being those tag-alongs that so many parents treat them as. #Unschooling is a very valid form of education that doesn’t oppress youths but gives them the freedom to choose their own path and inform themselves through self-directed learning and play. Trust me, I can wax poetic about this stuff for hours. 😊
Though I don’t have kids myself, something that causes a lot of emotional distress to me, I’m still a supporter of #GentleParenting and live the #youthLiberationist ethics in practice. Kids, to me are as equal as anyone else. The only thing that separates us is lived experience and age.
I’m also a casual #PC#gamer who has considered streaming on and off for a while but has never actually done so. I play with a lot of emulators too and love reliving the old days. #retro
I do make some #AIArt from time-to-time using Stable Diffusion, though admittedly I haven’t been as active on that front lately due to mental health burnout.
Also love #anime, #cartoons, #TV when I actually have the money to pay for streaming services, and #movies are fun too when the #ADHD allows me to sit still long enough to get through one.
Other things that matter to me are making and keeping real #friendships. I’d rather have a few really solid people to call family than have a bunch of people who aren’t as in it for good as me.
I’m also a #stoner and am very pro #420, like my #Vodka and #RedBulls from time-to-time, and I’m a recovering addict who has over six years clean from most things that nearly claimed my life. I fully appreciate the struggles of #DrugAddiction, and will always listen to anyone who may be struggling or who needs someone who understands. #YourNotAlone
I judge absolutely no one for anything beyond observable behavior. I mean that too. I don’t judge anyone anything.
Am a #tea drinker and #coffee lover, I love #cooking, and I’m always doing experimental mad scientist things in the kitchen.
I also identify as a long-time #furry, though the community has grown stagnant, too commercialized and for public consumption in recent years. Some would probably say that my whiskers are grey, for all the time I’ve been around in one form or another. That’s to say, I’ve seen a lot in the furry fandom, and where it’s at now just makes me sad because it’s not like it used to be.
Otherwise, anything you may wish to know is always a DM away. I’m very approachable, or at least I try to be. The only dumb questions are the ones you don’t ask. As such, I invite your curiosity.
The first way I heard Joe is back in the 90s, because Anthrax covered "Got the Time" (a KILLER cover) in 1990 and as Scott Ian of Anthrax pointed out, Joe's version is FASTER than theirs! This is a PUNK song, man.
And then there's "Steppin' Out". This song is magical and that MELODY, I mean, what even is this song. Was reminded of it again the other day when we were watching 'School Spirits' and it was playing. The synths - MASTERFUL song.
Day 5 is Chill-out Friday and I'll be joined by a VERY special guest on the twitch stream! Can a modular synth be chill? What is modular, even? We're gonna find out! https://www.twitch.tv/bekindmakemusic starting at 12:30PM ET
