I honestly think #Spotify has missed the boat on this one. Those who care about #Lossless will already be on #AppleMusic#Deezer or #Tidal; and those who don't care won't pay the extra to get it. The fact the aforementioned three services all include lossless in their base subscriptions while it will be an extra tier on Spotify won't help matters. #Music#Streaming
If they'd gone lossless a year ago it might have mattered. Now, not so much
Spotify lossless audio said to be close to launch, with third branding
@sturmsucht When talking to musicians, recommendations usually are #Bandcamp or #Tidal , with a certain preference for the former because streaming seems generally difficult fairness-wise.
I'm wanting to leave Spotify (there are so many reasons for doing so) and I've read that Tidal is the streaming service distributing the biggest share to artists (probably after Bandcamp, but that's a different kind of service).
Has anybody experienced Tidal and seen drawbacks? Or do they somewhat have weaker values than Spotify's CEO and I didn't catch that information?
I read a thread on here which said #Napster pays artists (presumably they mean labels) the best, so I downloaded the app to see what it's all about in 2024 because I know it's going to be very different to the Napster I remeber of 2000. :crystal_ball_fb:
And it seems on the surface like a competent streaming app. :face_smile_fb: There's not that much difference between #Spotify / #Tidal / #Deezer / etc. these days to be honest.
But I think I'm sticking with #AppleMusic. :face_sunglasses_fb:
I've been with #Spotify for 10 years, but I'm now considering switching to #Tidal. I don't like the way Spotify is going: shifting focus to podcasts, paying shit to musicians... I'd rather see my money go to them than to Rogan.
But it's not just about me, I have my whole family on our family plan. I have to be sure about it and convince them. If you have made the switch, what had been your experience?
Ultimately, the biggest barrier to leaving #Spotify will be Spotify Connect. Some devices in the family will have to be left behind. Other than that I think #Tidal is able to completely replace Spotify.
Where do y'all buy #music , specifically CDs and 16bit flac? Currently I'm using:
a) #Tidal for streaming,
b) #discogs for rare NM+ CDs,
c) amazon?? for mainstream CDs,
d) https://us.7digital.com/ ?? for #FLAC -- purchased downloads.
e) Does anyone use other streaming services, like iDJPool?
f) (I already know how to pirate and how to buy mp3s.)
I'm especially looking for (d) -- alternative sources of FLAC purchases -- because 7digital won't have everything (nothing does).
Just got a quick script up and running for #tidal to fix music that has become unavailable. If it find a song with an exact title match from the same artist it will add the new song and remove the old one.

I’ve started testing out alternatives to #Spotify as they’re putting their prices up yet again! £20pm for Family plan now. 🙄
I’ve started with #AppleMusic as I had a 2-month free trial, but the Windows app is trash. It keeps telling me playback has stopped on another device. It wasn’t playing on another device in the first place. Also songs just randomly stops playing or starts from the beginning again. 🤦♂️
No crossfade feature on mobile or playlist based playback features e.g. Rain Sounds playlist by Tidal doesn’t crossfade tracks which makes it jarring to play whilst going to sleep.
Despite the better audio quality, I’m not sure I can make the switch to Tidal.
I’m having a go with #Tidal’s free trial since the upcoming new price for CD-quality streaming audio is looking pretty good, and I like how they pay artists better than many other services. The first track on their “welcome mix” for me is one of my favourites and it sounds awesome, so we’re off to good start: #CHVRCHES’ cover of “LOVE”: https://tidal.com/browse/track/200230668?u
