I conduct content review for a client working on #type1diabetes research.
This report on arsenic in drinking water leading to #type2diabetes is worth sharing so people know their risk factors:
"Exposure to drinking water contaminated with arsenic below the current regulatory limit is associated with an elevated risk for type 2 diabetes (#T2D) in urban US communities, with the correlation being stronger in women and individuals with a lower body mass index (BMI)."
It's hard to believe we live in a world where Diabetics have to ration their insulin supply or risk death, despite the drug being developed for more than 40 years.
'Inverse vaccine” shows potential to treat multiple sclerosis and other autoimmune diseases'
"has shown in the lab setting that it can completely reverse autoimmune diseases like multiple sclerosis and type 1 diabetes — all without shutting down the rest of the immune system."

Cyberpunk musings in the distant aftermath of the Neuralink human test.
Bodily autonomy is probably the biggest roadblock that the original #cyberpunk visionaries underestimated. We just don't want to be replacing limbs and installing stuff, even for pretty measurable benefit.
So what have we figured out humans will allow themselves to be cut open for?
Necessary health interventions, obviously. That's my big use case. (did you know my body is running on 2 different artificial life support systems? One internal and one external? And I also have a history of major internal intervention, both chemical and surgical)
I have what I think is trigger finger. Apparently a lot of type 1s get it??? But considering all the ways I absolutely disrespect my hands and fingers with all my hobbies, I'm not surprised.
I finished the garden steps project! But a few steps need some tweaks and the constant storms have washed away a lot of seeds. At least the dirt farming is finished!
Had a call, from one of the nursing team, checking in, to see how I’m doing with my pre-op medication..(hint-not good) nurse advised to reduce by 50%. Oh thank god😮💨 Going in on Wednesday so, fingers crossed it all goes well, and I AM the first patient they get to on the day. #Type1Diabetes#DontLeaveMeToGoIntoHypo
Health authorities in Sweden authorized the start of a clinical trial testing insulin-producing cells from donors engineered to prevent immune reactions in people with type 1 diabetes.
Here’s a great short film called “Type 1” I supported via KickStarter. Share it and watch it. Only 15 min. Shortened Link to Film: http://bit.ly/type1film
I was finally getting into the garage and tidying it up and then a hypo struck and now I can't do anything for the next two hours because I have lost the Ability to Really Been Far Even as Decided to Use Even Go Want to do Look More Like?
Have had my infusion sets start leaking insulin within 24 hours for the past 3 or 4 sets. Since they are all from the same box, I dropped a line to Tandem via their contact form. I wonder if they'll send a replacement or what will happen.
Dexcom have a form specifically setup for reporting failures/requesting replacements, but I didn't see anything like that on the Tandem site. #T1D#Type1Diabetes
Fucking hate it when my infusion site doesn't take and my basal isn't delivered for hours. Especially if the timing is around meal time, because I can't know if I'm rising because of a bad site or because I underestimated my meal's carbs. My only indicator is a radical angry mood swing that leaves me upset and embarrassed after my blood sugar finally comes down.
I tend to lean towards "meat snacks" to help lower my carb intake. This past week my blood sugar has been wild, and I've struggled to stay in range.
I just now realized that my current meat snack selection are 4g carb per serving instead of the usual <1g. This isn't a smoking gun, but by golly what an oversight. Each one of these beef sticks is like a glucose tablet.
Vertex reports that, over a year after receiving stem-cell therapy, two type 1 diabetes patients no longer need insulin injections and their HgA1c levels declined.
Vertex’s treatment, VX-880, replaces damaged pancreatic islet cells with stem cells that have been “coaxed in a lab to develop into those same insulin producing factories.” 1 of 2 patients dropped out for unstated reasons. Patients do need to take lifelong immunosuppressants.
@shanselman someone on a chat forum I'm on asked this: "Does anyone have any app recommendations for managing #type1diabetes ? We have a child staying with us for a couple of weeks and all of the tracking/calculating is new to me, so looking for something that might help. Not looking for something that ties into a monitor, more in search of something that can help calculate insulin doses and/or help track carb intake. Simple is probably better". Suggestions? #t1d
