It never ceases to amaze me that #ShaNaNa was considered such a goofy, comical novelty act for covering songs that were 15 years old. "Get a Job" by the #Silhouettes was a #1 record in 1958.
This would be the equivalent of somebody today covering Lady Gaga's "Poker Face."
IF (a big if) you have an Apple Watch ⌚️, I massively recommend trying the new Snoopy watch face (which came with watchOS 10 that came out in September).
For all my efforts at customising watch faces with fancy complications to be cool and practical, once I changed to Snoopy I’ve not gone back.
It’s such a joy to see Snoopy (and Woodstock) every time I look at the time. It’s honestly good for my soul. Every time I see a friend or colleague with an Apple Watch I show them - I feel like a Snoopy evangelist…there’s worse things to be in the world ☺️ #snoopy#woodstock
This is about the disconnect between US govt’s #AntiWar propaganda & fugly realities that soldiers & civilians faced in US war on #Vietnam.
"Come on Wall Street, don't be slow
Why man, this is war au-go-go
There's plenty good money to be made
By supplying the Army with the tools of its trade"
Okay, so the theme for #JukeboxFridayNight is #ShowOfHands / #HaveASay (political songs). I think this counts, being an anti-war protest rendition of the national anthem.
The only time I heard an electric guitar mimic bombs and guns.
On this day in 1969 Jimi Hendrix took the stage at Woodstock. He gave an iconic performance that included an iteration of the Star Bangled Banner like no other.
Fun facts: they were introduced as the Jimi Hendrix Experience. But Jimi was actually fronting a new band with Mitch Mitchell by a different name. He was also the highest paid performer at the festival.
It was 54 years ago this weekend that the Woodstock Music & Art Fair was held on Max Yasgur's farm in Bethel, New York. As many know, ticket sales collapsed & it became a free concert when crowds knocked down the fence. I jumped the fence at Woodstock...but I was 46 years too late! When I visited in 2015, the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, which now owns the festival site, was closed, so I jumped the fence & wandered around the iconic property.
15/08/1969.
#Woodstock
My annual sharing of a U.S. Army veteran’s take on the “Star Spangled Banner” at the Woodstock music festival on Yasgur’s farm in 1969. #MusicOfMastodon #ClassicRock #Hendrix #Woodstock
Headphones on. This is what launched #Santana's career. 1969 #Woodstock. Drummer Michael Shrieve was only 20 years old and laying it down in front of literal sea of people! "Soul Sacrifice" https://youtu.be/JaaT_HRb4GU
