I'm gonna try to clear up a few things

Meta is not gonna buy Mastodon or any server, this is based on absolutely nothing and untrue.

Yes, some of us indeed got contacted by Meta/Insta because they are working on a new social platform (this was in the news) and they are looking into joining the Fediverse (Mark Zuckerberg also told this in the recent podcast)

SO.

This contact was about a "heads-up" for a potential big platform to join the network and not for a "take over".

@tchambers @stux In the end, people who refuse to interact with Meta’s communities (their content, their choice!) will……set up accounts on AP servers that also don’t federate with them. Preblocking the entire project doesn’t solve anything — least of all keeping Meta from continuing to develop their own AP servers or bridging mechanisms.

I wonder if this is at all related to challenges with moderating an instance of checks notes 200k active accounts? Or with moderating new accounts on the only instance actively promoted in the official apps? :thinking_rotate:

Thankfully we can always defederate! What's that? It's the biggest instance so there are real concerns about a lot of people losing connections? Whodda thunk it!

I am trying to figure out how to communicate to Americans how effed up this is. I lived outside this country for 20 some years and this is not normal. I never once thought that maybe I should not go to the store, or be in my yard or send my kid to school because there could be a shooting. I never once got rejected for healthcare because of my lifestyle or knew anyone who did. I never once (even in a dictatorship) thought, I better not tell anyone my politics they might kill me.

What Elon Musk & Jack Dorsey are doing is basically just "pro wrestling"

There is no actual competition going on here

Elon Musk is destroying twitter while also using it as a distraction while Jack Dorsey builds the "new shit".

The end goal is always the same for all of these fucks though...to increase the power/amplify the grift of "crypto"/billionaire/oligarch/fascist assholes.

Everyone fell right into the same trap.

These fucks are on the same team.

The Misskey family of server apps just overtook Peertube to become the #2 most used platform on the Fediverse!

  • Peertube: 310,548 accounts
  • Misskey + forks (including Calckey): 315,377 accounts

While Mastodon currently dwarfs the Misskey family by orders of magnitude, Misskey is growing at a faster rate -- particularly in Japan.

But a fork of Misskey, Calckey, is beginning to gain traction in North America and Europe!

At one time, there was a lot of crypto bros on the Fediverse.

However, most of them got angry that their servers were Fediblocked -- so they migrated to Nostr.

This is why bitcoinhackers.org shut down.

But now some of these crypto bros are using the Mostr bridge to interact with the Fediverse because, as it turns out, there's not much on Nostr right now except crypto spam.

As part of a wave of layoffs, I got laid off from my backend development job last month as the company's financials I was working with have been steadily decreasing. I applied for another job shortly after, and after a month of interviews and an honestly great response from their team, at the last minute, they told me that they were focusing their hiring efforts away from the US and towards Singapore. With Calckey donations, I don't have enough money to pay for rent or groceries. So I'm asking to , I'm the lead developer on the Calckey project, and I'm a fullstack, multi-language developer. I have 3+ years of enterprise experience, and I work great on teams as well as solo. Resume and references available upon request.
