So… a widening war in the #MiddleEast as Iran retaliates for the Israeli attack on its consulate in Syria that killed sr. generals. From Iran’s POV, there was no choice. The attack on its diplomatic mission was/is considered an attack on its sovereign territory, a red line for any country. It had to respond. But the response, so far, has been measured & interesting. So far. #Iran launched drones, which were immediately detected giving Israel a few hours to prepare and activate their considerable air defenses. Iran claimed publicly that they also launched ballistic missiles, but Israel has denied that an there is no evidence yet that missiles are involved. A couple of possibilities come to mind. One, fearing a direct war with nuclear armed #Israel, Iran has purposely muted its response guaranteeing little or no Israeli damage but giving the Mullahs chance to claim revenge; and two, this response is a feint and we’ll see some unexpected asymmetric response at some undetermined point. I hope it is the former.
