So I'm going through a hell upgrade of mysql https://mastodon.social/@mcc/112294139220776280 and the only reason this is a problem is because one of the Wordpress tables got mangled during an upgrade. In fact, the only reason I am running Mysql is to support Wordpress. I don't really want to be running Mysql. Or Wordpress. But I set up this website in 2006, and now I'm stuck maintaining Wordpress, and the Mysql it depends on, and the Ubuntu THAT depends on, for like… the rest of my life. Every new LTS, a jolt of pain

A publisher is using AI to write crappy nonfiction, then assigning author names that almost match leading experts in that field (to trick search engines). I think that we have probably seen an over-use of the term "enshittification" over the past 12 months. I feel that this probably deserves a different classification.
I have threads silenced on Infosec.exchange, .town, and fedia.social. That means people here won’t see stuff from threads, but you have the option to follow and interact or outright block the threads instance.
There are some, though, that are hyper opposed and not finding that to be sufficient. Hypothetically speaking, if I were to create another instance that did hard block threads (activitypub, DNS, firewall, etc), would what would be the type of instance would you like to see?
