The pronunciation I use is meant to reflect a rather late period, when monophthongization of the old diphthongs was extensive and contrasts of unstressed final vowels were growing unstable. That's why you hear things like the "eo" grapheme read as /œ/ or /ø:~øʉ/, why those final vowels are often schwa-ified.

If anyone is wondering how google is doing, it is giving incorrect answers to the query “How old is the Universe?”

Instead of serving up scientific consensus (just shy of 14 billion years) it is latching onto recent media coverage of a questionable study (tired light, time-dependent coupling constants) claiming a much larger figure.

Notably, it gives me the right answer from an incognito window. But elevating popularity metrics over scientific consensus is a real problem!

Experiment of the morning: found a random (domestic) goose egg that started pipping because a stubborn turkey was sitting on it, stuck it in an incubator because a lone gosling won't do well in with the whole flock, realized I can't raise one lone gosling, took the broody turkey and set her up in a stall by herself, and slipped the hatching egg under her. I hope it turns out well, but there are many ways this could end sadly. Baby animals are so emotionally hard sometimes...

I'm so proud of the lettuce I grew this year on the roof. Soon enough there will be carrots, beats, and potatoes.

When I get old and gray I'll put a chicken coop and beehive out there too.

Mary Fields (Stagecoach Mary) was the FIRST Black American & 2nd woman to deliver the mail in the U.S. At 60, she applied for a mail carrier position in Montana's Cascade region. She aced the job by skillfully hitching her horses faster than anyone else. Despite bandits, wolves, & grueling weather, Mary never missed driving the route with horses & Moses, her mule. She would often trek by foot over 10 miles with sacks over her shoulder.
