@cmdln Are you going to Saints Row for their Olde Towne Coffee Market today noon-4 pm? I'm considering it. Local artisan coffee, sweet and savory pastries. If I go, it would be sometime between noon-1:30.

    Configures,

@cmdln Oops, sorry. See you another time, maybe.

There was a momentโ€”during the 4 hour wait at the airport check-in deskโ€”that I began to suspect that within its 4.6 billion years journey since formation in the earliest days of the Solar System, asteroid Ryugu had never experience such hardship as this last 10,000km via Haneda airport security. My latest (and a personal account) for on launching the first international exhibits of grains from asteroid Ryugu! (Based on the original mastodon posts on the subject ๐Ÿ˜‰)

Director: In this scene you're going to float gracefully from the airlock to your desk in zero-g.

Actor: Great! Wires, rotating set... or?

    Director: No just acting

Actor: Ok! Cool, I can do this. I'm a professional. I did Shakespeare with the Royal Theatre

You are going to turn down the lights or tilt the camera or crop my legs out or something right?

Director: Nope, full studio lights, full body shot, focused on your arse

Actor: Ok, I can do this. I'm a professional

    Configures,

@upmultimedia I enjoyed Continuum Drag podcast's reviews of episodes from this series. It sounded like it had some interesting parts, though low budget.

@Robotron The Washington Metropolitan Gamer Symphony Orchestra (I used to sing with) has several enthusiastic recorder players and one of them arranges recorder-focus music occasionally. They have at least one recording of a video game song arrangement with 4-5 recorder players playing multiple size/pitch recorders, lovely arrangement. I'll ask her for the link (they have so many videos on FB!) https://www.wmgso.org/ cc @LauraJMG

    Configures,

@Robotron @LauraJMG I mean, WMGSO has so many recordings on YouTube I haven't dug up the recorder vids yet. https://www.youtube.com/@WMGSO

Me: is rising again, everyone's vaccine protection has faded substantially over six to 12 months, and we risk Long COVID problems for ourselves and loved ones if we don't take a bit more care.

Them: But wearing a mask makes me look funny!

Honestly, I never realized how the least little social pressure would overcome science, common sense, and self-preservation. Mortality rates are down, but some people will die because they weren't strong enough to wear a mask this summer & fall.

    Configures,

@augieray I'm astonished to hear two of my older sisters talk about not wearing masks any more, although they understand COVID isn't over. My twin and I were unpopular in high school (geeks) and it hardened us against social pressure, yay Dungeons and Dragons!

Patreon users beware: a problem with one of their banking partners is causing some signups/ renewals to fail and you may silently automatically unfollow whomever you were trying to support. You may have to sign up for some creators again and/or switch payment methods. They've emailed the creators about this. One of the ones I follow just posted about this on Patreon (unlocked post by Fool & Scholar Productions).

A few weeks ago, I was very surprised to receive an email that my story, โ€œTwo Hands, Wrapped in Gold,โ€ had been nominated for a Hugo Award for Best Novelette. As is customary, the awards team asked if I wished to accept the nomination or withdraw it from consideration. Unfortunately, Iโ€™ve decided to choose the latter option.

Please read my full explanation post here: https://sbdivya.com/fwords/2023/6/29/withdrawing-from-hugo-nominations

@sbdivya It was a great story! I'm not voting for the Hugo awards this year. I couldn't see how to do so without supporting this year's convention, which has two guests of honor advocating destruction of two peoples and cultures.
