The skin of your laundry pods dissolve in the washing machine, right?

They dissolve into microplastic.
And wastewater treatment systems have no way to filter that out so the microplastics go straight into streams and the ocean.

Just pour your laundry soap out of a box or bottle.

How does the plastic dissolve? I always thought they were some sort of dried out soap on the outside.

🆕 blog! “VR Game Review: Labyrinth deLux – A Crusoe Quest”

I love single player VR puzzle games. Especially ones with no timers, baddies, or jump-scares. I just want to play against myself. Labyrinth deLux is brilliant. The puzzle is simple enough - point lasers at mirrors, then align mirrors until they point at the target. You've almost certainly played…

Reacher Season 1 on Amazon Prime Video is actually shocking good? No joke. Go check it out. It knows exactly what it is and that is joyous. It’s a show entirely how all your problems are solved by being tall.

They did a great job of bringing the book to TV. I hope they keep making more.

DefectiveWings,

I've enjoyed the zsh shell when installed along with ohmyzsh. I like the jonathan theme, personally.

    It is hard to describe, in words, the level of not being ready to go back to work tomorrow morning after a four-day weekend

    DefectiveWings,

    @jerry That's why I made it a 5 day weekend.

    Ask me tomorrow about how I'm feeling, though.

    Time for some upgrades. I need to add a dedicated ssd for video clips as well as upgrade cpu from 3700x to 5900x.
    3700x will go into spare parts bin. I have another mobo,case,psu,ram & now cpu to build another computer. All I need now is a gpu & storage. Then I will be able to start playing with proxmox.

    DefectiveWings,

    @Rajiv Have you had much success with pass-through GPU-ing with proxmox?

    A question for my friends.

    Did you know that you can turn off auto-update in the Google Play appstore?

    It allows you to keep old versions if an update contains something you don't like.

    How many apps do you have frozen in time?

    DefectiveWings,

    @Edent
    I hate how turning it off for one app seems to stop updates for all apps.

    So, if I use PASSWORD-MANAGER to store all my passwords, but said P-M can also store 2FA codes and passkeys...

    Isn't it a security risk to store it all in the same PASSWORD-MANAGER?

    Right now, I use one app for my passwords and a second completely different app for 2FA codes. But if I used the same app and that Master Password was compromised, then they have access to both my password and 2FA, right?

    DefectiveWings,

    @matt It depends on your risk tolerance/ model.

    If the goal is to prevent someone from gaining access to your accounts from a password dump of Online Service A, then saving the MFA token in your password manager is just fine.

    If your risk model needs to address full machine compromise and/or rubber hose & wrench attacks, then further separation of those authentication methods is probably best.

    I can't help but notice the new Apple laptops rate "Video Playback 22 hours, Web Browsing 15 hours" under battery life.

    Nobody before or after this has culture. Your mind has never existed on a precipice of infinity. To know actual, true awe in beholding a thing produced at the same speed of your perception, that has never existed. That was impossible. You are empty because you have never felt joy.

    Looking for a backup solution for both Windows and Linux targets (about 20/80% respectively). We're building a new backup server (Currently using BackupPC), and figured this was a good time to start researching other options.

    I'd prefer a solution that's on-prem (e.g.no cloud solutions).

    Any ideas?

    DefectiveWings,

    @visone

    Rsync is an option, but crude.

    BackupPC is basically a glorified rsync backup, with the added benefit of partial and full backups and GUI tools.

    It's a bit slow, and for the 200ish machines I have, it tends to not keep up as well as I'd like

    DefectiveWings,

    The very worst tech sales pitch you got this week:

    DefectiveWings,

    @hacks4pancakes

    Picked the scheduling option as it was the closest one.

    "We noticed you haven't used us to shred your confidential information for nearly three years. We know you'd like to set this up for every two years (oh really?). When can we come out to work with you again?"

    Like, dude. I'll tell you what I told the last sales rep. That multi-hundred hard drive dump you got from us was nearing a decade in the making. I don't go through that many harddrives. I don't need to pay the onsite fee just to shred the ten drives I have currently have locked up in the closet.
