The humor of my day just gets better!

I met the construction foreman outside right after I'd showered. No makeup. Hair in a pile. Wearing sweats and glasses.

2 hours later he knocks on the door to ask a question. I appear dressed for work. Makeup on. Hair down, no glasses...

He looks at me strangely, "Hi, um, I was talking to the other lady about trimming back some bushes. Can you ask her if that's still ok?"

Poor guy was so embarrassed when I had to tell him I was, in fact, the same "lady."

You haven't heard from me on the Cass Report because I'm busy at work, and halfway through the last of the Oh Shit articles. I haven't had a chance to read it in any detail.

But from the skimming I've done, and even early scholarly rebuttals, it sure as hell looks like a textbook example of how to produce sham science, even independent of its impact on trans kids' lives.

@johnefrancis @stephanie @MichaelPorter The original floppy was an 8" monster meant to load microcode on IBM computers. Lot's of systems used that, including me when I wrote my very own small operating system for the 6502. whistles innocently

@johnefrancis @stephanie @MichaelPorter I heard a hilarious story from a cow-orker at Dynalogic. Before I joined they were selling a 6800 system with an 8" floppy to business users. One company called to complain that their floppies didn't last long. So cow-orker goes out and asks to show them how they were being used only to see the user rip the plastic sleeve off of the bare floppy complaining that the wrappers were so tough to pull off... I've heard stories of users using fridge magnets to hold these on walls and the like as well. The 3.5" floppy certainly prevented that.

@MichaelPorter @johnefrancis @stephanie I suspect that it didn't actually do much to the data but as I am not support person but a coder I couldn't say for sure. I do know that they once experimented with a strong magnet and magnetic tape. It takes a lot and it has to be moving to leave the magnetic domains in a random order.

I was hearing on the radio this morning (CBC 1) that eclipse glasses are very hard if not impossible to find now. Do not despair as a pinhole camera is trivial to make. Please look at instructions on line but basically cardboard box, cut hole, tape foil over hole pin prick it with pin, thumbtack. Put head inside you'll be able to see the sun on the other side. Failing even that, watch the thousands of pinhole camera views of the sun as it come through tree leaves!

The term "Propaganda" gets an emotional response from many as connotations of state actors nefariously producing material to change people's minds yet the techniques used in propaganda are still used to this day in advertising. Using basic skills one can unwrap many of the tricks advertisers use to persuade people to buy their product.

@npilon Sure that's the other half. Those that have the money can roll out a lot of propaganda in a short time. So much for the concept of "The marketplace of ideas" which is commonly trotted out. The marketplace of ideas can only work when there is equal access to the media.
