@johnefrancis You fool! You listened in to internal government BS without being adequately prepared!? You have to build up a desensitivity or you'll suffer severe reactions when coming in contact with grade-A BS.

Start young, with just small doses of BS. At first, most of it will go right over your head, but you'll get enough dosage to start the process. Over the years, you'll be more and more receptive to the BS, but you'll also have become increasingly resilient to its short-term effects. Eventually, you'll be able to withstand entire days-long BS workshops without any ill effects.

Sure, after 24 years or so, the accumulated BS in your system will have reached near-toxic levels, and you'll have retire to academia to detoxify while amusing yourself with a different strain of BS.

The comments on my women in computing videos just keep on coming, and today it was someone who says he's been in IT for 30 years and has "never, ever" met a woman who has shown any interest in computers.

I seriously didn't know how to respond except to say that it's okay, not everyone meets women. Because what other explanation could there possibly be?!

I can assure you from my personal experience that women were working with computers in the '80s, and I trust the literature that indicates there were women working with computers before that.

Just had one of those horrifying I'm-old-now thoughts... I sometimes use Data from Star Trek as an analogy when talking about AI (like emphasizing that LLMs really aren't Data, even if they occasionally do a good impression of him)

... except I just realized Star Trek: The Next Generation aired before a lot of the people I talk to about this stuff were even born!
