I don't know who needs to hear this but acting as the pr flaks for powerful politicians in exchange for being spoon-fed micro-scoops is not journalism

True, but it's cheap.

  1. Last week media outlets across the country published headlines claiming @Target will suffer an additional $500 million in loses this year due to "organized retail crime" (ORC)

THOSE HEADLINES ARE OBJECTIVELY FALSE

Follow along for receipts

A false narrative such as this would make it easier to write off $500 million. Win-win for the company.

Josie (6 years old), Bertha (6 years old) and Sophie (10 years old) worked regularly at the Maggioni Canning Company. Work began at 4 AM and the three would make from $9 to $15 a week. Sophie would do six pots of oyster a day and her mother who also worked with her said "She don't go to school. Works all the time."

Through such photos, Lewis Hine documented the harsh working conditions borne by thousands of children, who were sent to work soon after they could walk, and were paid based on how many buckets of oysters they shucked daily.

He covered around 50,000 miles a year, photographing children from Chicago to Florida working in coal mines and factories.

These photos helped to raise an outcry against child labor and made the American public become widely aware of the scope of the problem. This resulted in the establishment of organizations such as the National Child Labor Committee, in 1904, which led the fight against child labor.

My apologies, but you are thinking locally. They are global and can go anywhere. Their actions suggest they've already spent a tiny fraction of their wealth to ensure they can live out their lives - perhaps another 30 years - in comfort and power. After that, they really don't care what happens.

That's true; one of the basic assumptions of this discussion is that the civic leaders in question want a polite, safe society.

Also, it's Quebec.

Researchers craft a fully edible battery

It has a terrible capacity but shows we don't need to use toxic materials.

Prior to 1982, stock buybacks were considered stock manipulation. It was Reagan's SEC that opened the floodgates to their abuse.

Stock buybacks donโ€™t create more jobs. They don't increase wages. They donโ€™t grow the economy.

They make corporate execs richer. Hello?

If the SEC broke it, can't Biden appointee SEC Chair Gary Gensler fix it?

As with Trump's border kids, and as with Native kids being placed in boarding schools...

This is genocide.
This is not "approaching" genocide. It IS genocide. The purpose of stealing kids and putting them in the foster system (to be placed with "Good Christian Families") is to erase trans people.

Except, there's one difference:
These are American citizens.

Oh, and this won't stop with Florida. With each step of trans eradication, once one red state gets away with it, others quickly follow in order to show they too are proper Republicans. Because they know it's how they'll win elections, and they also know they can drag it out in courts until after the November 2024 elections.

Horrific as this is, I expect them to get much, much worse between now and then.

In Q1 of this year, Procter & Gamble raised prices by 10%.

They weren't alone.

Nestlรฉ and Kimberly-Clark also raised prices by 10%. Coca-Cola hiked prices by 11%. Pepsi jacked them up by 13%.

This is what corporate price gouging looks like.

McCarthyโ€™s debt ceiling plan would slash school funding, impacting 25M kids in schools with low-income students and 7.5M students with disabilities.

Oh, and it could force a reduction of up to 108,000 teachers, aides, and other key staff.

The GOP's priorities are crystal clear.

Supreme Court justices are some of the most powerful people in our government.

They are also among the least accountable, playing by their own set of rules.

Is it any wonder that the American people have lost faith in them?

Frances_Larina,
@Frances_Larina@sfba.social avatar

@rbreich

If Republicans have taught America anything over the last few years, it should be that rules and traditions are about as useful as thoughts and prayers.

The top echelons of our government are still just government employees and should have to abide by all the same ethical behavior laws as any other.
