BASIC is 60 years old today!
Happy Birthday to a programming language that introduced millions to software development. 🎉

It’s the longest day of the year! Typographically anyway. Been looking forward to see how this sign copes and as hoped, it didn’t.

As I was cleaning this keyboard (top marks if you can guess which 80’s British system it was from) I found the perfect ChatGPT key.

Be careful out there. I’m up to date on vaccines and I mask up in most public places, but I’m just getting over my first dose of Covid. Bloody horrible it was too. Would not recommend. If you think “why should I wear a mask here? No-one else is?” Then that’s EXACTLY why you should wear one.

Storage bench? My dudes, that is a telephone seat. It goes in the hall. Your telephone sits on the table, with the wire draped down and plugged into the wall. Your two phone books go in the opening.

In the early 1900s, independently of Turing, the next-to-unknown Percy Ludgate designed a computer in Dublin. This I did not know.

Happy “Kill the Bit” day to those who celebrate! Back in 1975 this was one of the first “type ins” for home computers, specifically the Altair 8800. Toggle in the code and you can play a little reaction timer game on the LEDs.

Me: * wakes up in a starship after a 10000 year journey, the lone survivor of the human race *

Brain: Hey remember that embarrassing thing you did when you were 9?

Me: What? There is no-one alive who could even remember that?!

Brain: Let’s relive it in excruciating detail.

Me: * cringe *

EVERY COMPANY: We'd like to promote mental health in the workplace.

EMPLOYEES: Then how about you let me have an office where I can focus on my job, rather that putting me in a huge room shared with a dozen others and using a random desk I’m not allowed to put personal items on?

EVERY COMPANY: But collaboration!

How I made money as a student: writing games to get them published in computer magazines. This is a maze game from 1986 for the Amstrad CPC.

Popular computing weekly was one of my favourite magazines.

It’s been quite a while since I wrote for an Amstrad CPC magazine. Long enough to have had a daughter able to create some rather familiar artwork. I’m looking forward to seeing it in print. https://www.addict.media

Got the floppy disk drive working with the Altair Duino hardware. Look it boots!
