Phrases that I would ban if I were empress:

“If you’re not mad about [thing] then you’re not paying attention.”

It’s just so fucking smug, and it shames people who either 1) already know about [thing] but are devoting their energy elsewhere, or 2) may not know about [thing] and need help understanding its importance.

The “then you’re not paying attention” nonsense doesn’t do any real work and is just a snotty version of slacktivism.

My beautiful kid is 14 today, and we are starting out with brunch at White Dog Cafe, a local restaurant that leans hard into the dog décor, and it is so great.

A 3x3 square of brightly painted dog portraits. I don’t know all the breeds, but there is a dachshund, a yorkie, a terrier, a Maltese, a pittie, maybe a bulldog.
One of the dining rooms. There is floral wallpaper on the ceiling, and white wainscoting that goes about 2/3 of the way up the wall. Above the wainscoting the wall is a soft pumpkin color, and there are backlit metal silhouettes of various dog breeds on the colored part.
Bundles of dried wheat are used to decorate a half wall. There are large green leaves along the bottom. Some of the bundles have rectangular wooden tiles on them, on which are carved a dog.
