Wow... I knew that and had previously been purchased by . What I did not realize is that they also purchased in 2022 according to the polygon article.

They dominate streaming, own multiple large anime companies and also control one of the largest anime distributors (All in the States.)

It currently seems to be a boon for fans but I don't know that I like the direction this is headed.

@alastor8472 I had not heard of HiDive before but I see what you are talking about. They look like a decent option for newish anime, like Retro Crush is for older anime.

But like you said, I think the main competition is between Crunchyroll, Netflix and Hulu(Disney) and Disney+.

Three major competitors... none of which I see going bankrupt anytime soon so I guess that's not too bad and It's better than content being fractured across a dozen different services.

    @gamingonlinux This is excellent news! The addition of the verification check will save me a ton of time.

    This is a good excuse to fire up my Pine Book, checkout the revamp of the store and download a couple of Flat Packs that I've been wanting to try out.

    On and I’ve always reserved likes/favorites as a form of bookmarking posts. I know there is also a separate functionality for this, but it was a way to have two lists.

    I think I’ll revise my behavior and use it freely on any post I like. I’ve already tested it a bit on and I guess it makes more sense to appreciate posts even if not retweeting/boosting it.

    @alastor8472 That's what I started doing. I will Favorite a post so that way the person knows that someone saw it. It means a lot to the person who posted it even if I don't respond with a message.

    A lot of times I will Boost when I feel there is information others might like. I also sometimes Boost when I have personally contributed to a conversation in hopes that others join in the conversation.

    Like , intents to be decentralized. This means that not Bluesky as a company will be part of it, but others can also join in.

    The exciting part is that this is happening on multiple levels: where your data is stored, and how your feed is composed for your timeline.

    Note: Right now the devs are working hard on making this happen, while currently everyone invited is on the same server.

    @alastor8472 That's an informative rundown. It sounds like it addresses some of the pitfalls of Mastodon. Hopefully they can adhere to their vision and develop it into something unique and special.

    Assuming nothing drastically changes anytime soon, I'm sure I will be on Mastodon for years to come. It's always good to have a backup plan though so I will keep tabs on BlueSky.

    Rewatching all three movies so I can go see the fourth.

    I just finished the second one and I forgot that the organization uses retro tech for processing information.

    Typewriters, old green monochrome IBM monitors and Commodores. I love it!
