So I built a 2x2x1ft
box for a 10in woofer to use as a bass cab (mentioned before).Then I got a "bass" speaker (not) (Jensen MOD 50).
Now someone tells me it should be ported.
Other than building 100 cabinets with different port sizes and locations, what's a good way to do it right?
Buy a used bass cab, huh.
Phooey. It's okay.
...but what if it were BETTER?
Ugh.

@eyesquash

Porting is a surprisingly technical thing (if it’s going to be beneficial). I don’t recommend trying to build a ported cab yourself.

If you’re adamant, there is some details in this post that includes links to schematics and further info (the links may not work anymore) https://www.instructables.com/Build-a-Ported-Guitar-Cabinet/

https://barefacedaudio.com are also doing interesting things in this space (but my word they aint cheap!)

Honestly, change the speaker first! (https://youtu.be/-eeC1XyZxYs)

Funny - where I want to be seems magical, where I am seems ordinary, and when I get somewhere I want to be, it is still ordinary.
Maybe my sense of wonder is dampened by a lack of selective serotonin reuptake inhibition?
Ah, if dangling a shiny imagined time in front of me keeps me putting one foot in front of the other, maybe it's all good.

@eyesquash

I feel that!

I love fuzz, it’s my jam! Most of my rig is static and I just add the fuzz I’m feeling for that day/mood/guitar/whatever

Muffs are an absolute classic and everyone should have one (or 6). That said, there is a whole world in just muffs! The wonder of fuzz is every box is different even ones with the same paintwork.

L0wKey,
@L0wKey@mastodon.online avatar

@eyesquash

Fuzz, as a rule, is super sensititve to it’s context. Every part of the rig is relevant to how a fuzz will sound coning out the speaker. This is a blessing (there’s endless options and delights out there) and a curse (the same fuzz can sound glorious one time and appalling the next due to a minor knob tweak or slight change in overall gain staging).

Some circuits are less prone to this than others (muffs are, as a rule, very forgiving).

But when you find one that speaks to you…

Anyone had any experience with Pocket support? I was just trying to sign in, ended up creating a duplicate account (which I deleted) and am now locked out of my original account. Wondering whether it’s going to be an accidental and enforced ‘inbox zero’. (If so, I’ll be reverting to Instapaper, for sure. The Pocket settings and login flow are… not good.)

I’ve migrated to raindrop.io - so far so happy!

I expect it to move more usability to paid tiers over time, as with most things, but for now it is solid, dependable, and does what I want it to.

Just an alternative suggestion to the usual.

One Dutch out of four voted for this scum.

I guess that the time has come for me to look at new destinations outside of the Netherlands. This country deserves to lose all the skilled migrants that built its fortune, as well as all the less skilled migrants that make sure that the country keeps functioning.

I refuse to be amicable to anybody who gave their vote to .

We were looking to buy but without employment it would be cash only which obviously put a ceiling on affordability. Anything we looked at was gone in hours (or uninhabitable) - we came over twice to view and literally while travelling 80% of the properties we were to see had gone.

UK financial turmoil has meant the whole endeavour is now unaffordable in the short term so it’ll be a couple of years before we can try again I’d guess.

Hope delayed but not dead (yet)

A top advisor to Zelensky states that Elon Musk's decision to assist Russia by disabling Starlink for the Ukrainians led to the deaths of civilians, including children.

L0wKey,
@L0wKey@mastodon.online avatar

@georgetakei

Also, #Musk ‘s reasons are utterly immaterial. No one person gets to decide on this sort of thing. For all of our criticisms, this is what democracy is. #Ukraine has democratically decided to defend itself against an aggressor and the US has democratically decided to assist its ally.

He feels his opinion is more important than the hundreds of millions of people that agree with this course of action. It isn’t.

Autocracy cannot be tolerated.

Starmer is talking about the new Type 31 and Type 26 frigates, most of which are already under construction. Only 3 ships are at a point where you could change the order, which amounts to - at best - about 15k tonnes of steel. That's a nice order - but the UK steel industry produces about 9m tonnes a year. 15k tonnes doesn't make much of a difference. It's almost perfect Starmer: sounds great to the Daily Mail, makes zero difference to working people.

@craiggrannell @ianbetteridge

This is the worry. I was all ‘Team Starmer’ until recently. He was well organised and addressing the issues that had nade Labour so unelectable for the last couple of cycles, plus a competent background. I was a fan.

However, my fandom was based on the assumption that there would be a move closer to the campaign trail towards addressing some of the institutional problems the last 13 years have exacerbated, but I’m not seeing it.

L0wKey,
@L0wKey@mastodon.online avatar

@craiggrannell @ianbetteridge

I hope he becomes the great U-turner and this was all an act to sidestep the media on the way, but there is little evidence this will be the case.

I will hold my nose and vote the incumbents out. I worry they will be right back again in short order.

I just read that #guitar #amp #wattage should be twice that of the #speakers, and that if too low, the sound will be muffled.
This may explain the #tone I get from my 5 watt tube amp through a Fender GE-412 300 watt cab.

L0wKey,
@L0wKey@mastodon.online avatar

@Buffer @eyesquash i’ve been through a bunch of rat clones in my time, but none ever did it better enough to justify the change to me. Currently it’s just filling in while I wait for a Kinglsey Juggler (along with the bd-2).

I have a Matrise on the way too, which will let me live out my David Torn fantasies!

L0wKey,
@L0wKey@mastodon.online avatar

@Buffer @eyesquash

I agree. I flit between a much smaller board and this, but always want more. Being into live looping makes minimalism difficult.

The next iteration does away with the amp (but also allows for it when desirable) so that’s how I’m justifying the growth…

L0wKey,
@L0wKey@mastodon.online avatar

@Buffer @eyesquash

I also play with others increasingly rarely, so… these aging bones don’t have to lug it all around so much making middle aged pedalboard spread a feature, not a bug 😂
