Unfortunately I was enjoying a lovely break on the beach, logged into Mastodon and saw some ugly.
I have been promising myself to start moving away from commenting on what is happening in the moment and talk about more general legal issues. It invites less anger and hate.
Like everyone else, I'm relieved that it wasn't a hung jury or acquittal.
I have no doubt there will be an appeal because there are appealable issues.
@Teri_Kanefield@jwz. I don't know if looking at larger policy issues always helps. I LOVE policy. Got a degree in it actually. But most people become antsy when we begin to get into details. I've learned to make my points short and streamlined. Then I try my best to show concrete actions and/or changes from my policy ideas. Some folks cannot do multilayered abstract thinking at all and policy discussions can get there very fast. YMMV

The man is as progressive as LBJ and has gotten so many programs passed and STARTED. 11 billion this week for water infrastructure improvements. @jnye I second this motion. You must see it. I think it starts streaming next week. I lived this film, as I turned 20 as Regan was elected. The best part of this production is it does not get lost in the weeds. There are portions of the 80’ and 90’s that they skip over because they are not needed to get the message across and would make the narrative unwieldy.
@shekinahcancook Trump’s siblings are not psychopaths/malignant narcissists. Brother Fred drank himself to death probably because of a capacity for empathy. It is not a “lack of love” that created Trump. It’s his hardwiring.
The DSM-V is divided into 2 sections: Mood disorders /Personality disorders. The first can be fixed or healed. The second cannot. About 19% of the population has a personality disorder. Malignant Narcissists don’t feel love nor have the capacity for empathy.
@shekinahcancook. Of course they didn’t have a functional childhood. Fred was a nightmare. But that didn’t cause Trump to be a a malignant narcissist. They sent him to military school as a young teen because he was beyond their ability to understand or control.
Better nurturing might have blunted some of Trump’s excesses, but probably not. Psychopaths can have near perfect childhoods, yet they are still monstrous psychopaths.
We have to deal with reality. Trump is mentally ill.

The few of us who manage to be somewhat less toxic have never, ever been able to use our numbers to be adequate Allies.
