Just hit another rite of passage: my first TPU escape. Luckily, toolhead disassembly wasn't too difficult, just tedious.

@3dprinting

RickRae,

@JakeInEurope

I've had a few applications: the body for a respirator when N95s were in short supply (you don't want brittle stuff strapped to your face), wedge style doorstops, replacements for missing rubber feet, etc. No doubt a need will eventually present itself.

@koz @3dprinting

RickRae,

@koz

Even some PLA formulations can be troublesome and need drying. I've had some go so brittle it would snap just unrolling from the spool as it got nearer the hub. (Mostly from my early days - before I understood the importance of buying quality filament - but still...)

Full text search has been merged in #Mastodon main branch, and will be in the next (and final?) 4.2.0 beta 🎉

It is opt-in, so it will take some time to be filled with people content as they enable their profile to be indexed, but this was one of the most wanted Mastodon features for some time.

We plan to deploy it to mastodon.social and mastodon.online in the coming days to have a bit more feedback on it and see how it behaves in the wild.

RickRae,

@LinuxAndYarn

I believe somewhere up-thread spoke of AND/OR/NOT implementation.

It upsets me when people speculate despondently that we'll never get rid of covid now, that our chance has passed, when meanwhile we're not even trying for the lowest of low hanging fruit

For example, airplanes should be running their air filtration at max when boarding and deplaning. They don't. They have never done this throughout the pandemic. They can, there's no technical issue preventing them from doing this, they just don't, helping to spread covid variants internationally

Or schools. We've seen studies show that schools are a major vector for the spread of covid (and other airborne diseases!) We've also anecdotally seen many examples of schools that kept covid out completely, either through ventilation and filtration or testing and masking or some combination. Putting air filters in classrooms is dirt cheap compared to disabling students and sickening their households, but it's not even being looked at

They haven't even tried literally pushing a button and are telling us nothing can be done

RickRae,

@amberage

"I know of daycares that have expressly prohibited running air filters..."

Do you happen to know what the "justification" is for that restriction? Thanks!

Cats are musical creatures!

Much like birds, cats make many different noises. Cats can make up to 100 sounds, whereas dogs only make 10! Now, that’s some musical talent.

RickRae,

@SurrealSeal

Sounds: I've been owned by three cats and spent time around others; each had their own unique personality and "vocabulary."

Milo, the neighbors' cat who has more-or-less adopted me, has a lovely vocalization I've never heard before: a gentle closed-mouth "Mmm" which seems to indicate he's pleased.

Conversations: Cat Of Unknown Name will at times let out a quick peep. If I respond in kind it usually turns into a lengthy conversation.

Gotta love it.

@evelynefoerster @MaJ1

RickRae,

@MaJ1

I've been fortunate. My best friend was a cat dad so I got to spend a lot of time with that one. And the host for many years of TTRPG sessions lived with a seal point, and you surely know how talkative a Siamese can be!

And now of course I'm the adopted "uncle" of two lovely neighbor(hood) cats.

(There are others - including a cream-with-black-tail long-hair I'd love to meet - but they haven't deigned to introduce themselves.)

@SurrealSeal @evelynefoerster

RickRae,

@evelynefoerster

Hoping a ridiculously horrid photo won't be considered an affront to Caturday: This is one of the few shots I have of the white/cream cat with a gray/black tail.

Extracted from a single low-resolution video frame and zoomed WAY in, so almost no detail... but at least you can make out <cough> de tail. :ablobcatwave:

RickRae,

(Mostly) Linux Mint here as well. Not really for "management," but SMPlayer (a GUI front-end for MPlayer) fits my use case best.

Thanks for this, though; I'll check out the other suggestions as well.

RickRae,

@ManiacalV

Hah. I do that often. I also "preface" things a lot (because the reader needs context), which I understand is another fairly common indicator?

I haven't been assessed, but I have my suspicions...

RickRae,

@ManiacalV

One family member and one close friend have suggested I might be, so I guess it's noticeable. I seem to have a mix of ADHD/ASD traits (which I understand is fairly common... 50% to 70%?)

Speaking of Tombow, I've recently been introduced to their Mono 100 pencils (by a fellow Fedizen, as it happens). All I can say is, "Wow."

I've spent way too much time and money on the JetPens site over the years. :ablobcatwave:

Kefir grains.

This has been a wonderful discovery for me. I imagine many will have discovered kefir a few years ago but I tried it just 3 weeks ago and after buying live kefir grains online, I can make my own.

12g of grains have more than trebbled in a week. I can now make 1L batches

Informed our landlords that we're moving this fall, and their reaction is to raise our rent almost another 10% for the last five months that we're here. I'm absolutely livid.

The landlords (an old couple) have 3 expensive cars. They live in a villa and they own another house abroad. They own 16 apartments to rent out that I know of. They are fucking loaded and still they will spent every ounce of energy to take everything from us.

Landlords are fucking parasites. It's clear that moving out is going to be very difficult and I expect them to do anything to keep our deposit. By law, the deposit in Belgium is 3 months of rent! I'm going to explode from anger and financial stress if we can't get that back.

I don't want to have a legal fight over it. I don't have the finances, health or energy to do it. And covid is going to make that so difficult too.

Property is fucking theft.

RickRae,

@begrudging_recluse

Lovely exchange; thank you for sharing.

I just entered a secure area at work - wearing an N95 as always - and, unbidden, the security guard commented she'd been kicking herself all morning for forgetting her mask.

We had a nice, if brief, chat about the new variant, rising trends, and so on. She seemed well-informed and concerned.

So, at least a few people are paying attention.

Fingers crossed...

@robotistry

RickRae,

@begrudging_recluse

I keep spares in my laptop bag, but it's in my work area and I was already through the security checkpoint by then. Otherwise I'd've gladly retrieved one for her. Maybe I'll start carrying a spare in a back pocket.

Mind, I've seen no one masked here since the company mandate was dropped. And a few weeks ago hand sanitizer stations were removed. So her viewpoint was quite outstanding.

And: Dream on! :blobcatthumbsup: (Where is the masked blobcat emoji!)

RickRae,

@begrudging_recluse
