As the last season's currently being aired, I'm tempted to make some Inside No 9 artwork at some point.

However, I've only seen a few episodes. Any recommendations which which ones I should seek out first? :blobthumbsup:

@Claydisarray They are all separate episodes, and every one is fantastic in its own way.

I think from last season 3x3 is one of the most incredible - clever and disturbing, while being different.

Super tired now, but MUST. NOT. NAP, because I am getting a bit nocturnal of late. Suggestions for staying awake, please?

SteveClough,

@purplepadma No chance on that one!

Coffee? Or alcohol? I know that some people find one or other of these.

SteveClough,
@SteveClough@metalhead.club avatar

@purplepadma Caffeine in any form? Coke?

In fairness, even with strong coffee in the morning, I can still nap in the day.

    My mood has rallied now, but I haven’t been so up and down in one day for many weeks. It’s quite exhausting and scary but right this moment I feel peaceful. No need to cook tonight - we’re still quite full from lunch so we’re just going to have some cheese and crackers and fruit

    Is this something we should be worried about?

    Since 2-3 weeks our 4yo paints the same picture every day at Kindergarten. A sun, a rainbow and a (very abstract) heart. The image attached os just an excerpt, we have a lot of these drawings by now.

    He says that's the only thing he can draw 🤷

    SteveClough,
    @SteveClough@metalhead.club avatar

    @derthomas He likes cats so he can't be too bad.

    Worry? No, I don't think so. Kids do sometime go through phases where they become mildly obsessed with one type of thing - one set of drawings, in this case.

    Uhless it is disturbing him, I wouldn't be concerned. If he becomes obsessional about always having to draw this all the time, he might be struggling. But have you asked him why he can only draw this?

    It is, at least, a bright, cheerful set of pictures.

    is proving a challenge - I looked all the big hits in the year of my birth, and there are none of real note.

    But in the right sort of time is this one.

    I do prefer the Disturbed version, but this one, given its age, is a stunning piece of music.

    That moment when a metalhead hangs their head and confesses to never having listened to a major band that has loads of belting material and they think you're gonna laugh.
    Hell dude! I ain't gonna laugh, I'm stoked that I get to listen to it again with most new ears with you, and that you've given me an excuse to get all excited about them all over again 🎸

    Plus we've all got 'holes' in our music knowledge, mine are so big I can't even see out of them. Haha!

    SteveClough,
    @SteveClough@metalhead.club avatar

    @derthomas @Kitty Agreed - my metal likes are specific (mainly shoegaze metal, but very much niche areas). So many bands I have never listened to. Or I have listened to once and that is enough.

    So totally. If you like any area of metal, you are a metalhead. And you are one of the team.

    Whatever algorithm Steam is using to validate downloaded game content is terrible.

    It's going at ~0.5 MB/s. I don't know what algorithm they're using, but that performance is garbage.

    This machine bottlenecks on the drive at ~6 GB/s, RAM at ~18 GB/s, and a CPU core at 126 GB/s (if you're making use of all the AVX2 ports).

    The same thing applies to when Steam launches. I get a full 5 minutes of cursor stuttering and the system is unusable.

    SteveClough,
    @SteveClough@metalhead.club avatar

    @VikingChieftain @weilawei There is such an emphasis on "Full Stack Devs" so people who can code a little and know a little SQL and don't understand how to do these properly.

    And so many don't appreciate that a) a SQL call is expensive and b) the best way to manipulate your data if possible is on the DB server*.

    *Largely. Not always, But YKWIM.

    @VikingChieftain @weilawei Aaargh. I would have given them a mouthful for that.

    I would say one of the big patterns of the night is the swing to independents… double the numbers that were standing for re-election, compared to more like 20% boosts to each of Labour and the Lib Dems.

    I’d be interested to know how many of the new independent councillors formerly sat as Labour (and defected over, eg. party position on the Middle East) or as Tory councillors (and essentially defected from a sinking ship)

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-politics-68609729

    SteveClough,
    @SteveClough@metalhead.club avatar

    @drandrewv2 @simon_brooke The problem with the independents is that they are a diverse group. Those who think the Tories are too socialist/too radical and those who think Labout are too left wing/right wing.

    As well as those who stand on local issues too.

    The Greens are at least a single national party. And an indication of a direction that many people are thinking.

    But, mostly, it is a rejection of party politics. And rightly.

    Regardless of whether you like Non fic or not, if you are using this here big old interwebs, then honestly read them both. Start with Doppelganger and then read Code Dependant.

    Is technology gonna destroy democracy? What about the whole of humanity?

    These books made me worry, but both also gave hope for the future and the power of humanity and most of all communities.
