Conservative rhetoric over Carbon Tax.
For 2000 liters of gasoline @$0.13 tax equals $260.
For 1500 liters (above the yearly average per home) of home heating oil @$0.17 equals $255.
Total is around $500 or less than $10 per week per household. With rebate, 80% of households get more than this back. Carbon Tax essentially costs nothing, yet is somehow, by Conversative economics, breaking the backs of Canadians.

Rules should be put in place to stop governments from using taxpayer monies to fund advertising and marketing aimed at persuading opinion based on manipulated facts (also taxpayer funded).

@johnefrancis it has become too low a hanging fruit, for politicians without the integrity to know the difference, self-serving for the opinion of vote-getting and favoured industry, to spend in this way. It degrades our democracy and is abuse of position. Politics is there to take action on major opinion and promote markets that arise to help its citizens, not create opinion to act on at the expense of unity and the bias of divisiveness.

@johnefrancis when the NDP were in power in Alberta, they advertised heavily to persuade Canada the TM pipeline was necessary. Now, the job numbers have depleted, and Canadian taxpayers will be on the hook for billions from skyrocketing costs for a transitioning market. Meanwhile, any royalties, if any, will get claimed by Alberta while they boast building all the schools and hospitals for Canada. These are fabricated opinions not based in reality.

With a tenth of the population and workforce, they think they are owed half the country’s CPP. This should be a last straw insult. Canada should have its own referendum on kicking Alberta out, land-lock them, stop subsidies and payments, impose its own charges for anything flowing out, sue for all damages from excessive emissions and say good riddance.

@cazabon CPP states Alberta only contributes 16% of all funds to the Canadian plan. no matter how young your workforce is, that doesn't add up to a sensational 53%. Alberta also seems to conveniently forget its success is not a made in success alone but a Made in and elsewhere success, since a lot of the workers it needed came from elsewhere and returned. doesn't state you have to live in the province you contributed to collect. and gratitude flow both ways.

StitchedInkMedia,
@StitchedInkMedia@flipboard.social avatar

@cazabon what’s relevant here is that the political “correctness” of this formula of math is highly improbable of standing well against the test of time and reality.

StitchedInkMedia, (edited )
@StitchedInkMedia@flipboard.social avatar

@cazabon a different interpretation suggests 16% is more realistic, including the potential risks involved. This one doesn’t include trying to take advantage of the rest of Canada.

It’s Time to Roast Starbucks

has:
-Fired scores of pro-union workers
-Closed unionized stores
-Threatened to withhold improved wages and benefits from stores considering unionizing
-Packed stores with corporate managers to scare organizers

Does that sound like a “progressive” company to you?

The astonishing diversity of below-ground life is arranged into complex food webs. It could be a key ally in making forests resilient to climate change — but it’s been ignored in forest management.

I wish I didn't have to tell you about this again, but I do. It's not being reported much in the news — and you know why?

Because it's not 'new' (the origin of the word 'news'), it's old. This has been going on for months now, and corporate news outlets are simply tired of reporting it. But it is still happening.

Canada's boreal forests are burning up.

At least 1100 fires are active, more than 700 out of control. Over 13 million hectares have been burned so far, with no end in sight. It's an unprecedented climate and environmental disaster.

@breadandcircuses Alberta has got this! The political mindset is on it. To offset: we now pay 25 cents for paper bags! Relief is in sight. Even more welfare for business. Win-Win.

Just went to my neighbours to fix the TV for a second time today :bloblaugh:

They have an antenna signal instead of tv via internet cable but it kinda sucks with all the downtime and issues

They asked me to do their whole home rewiring since a mechanic would costs a few hundred bucks.. :amaze: So soon i'll fix their old wires and make sure it's fixed for good :ed_grin:

Sad to see how telecom companies take such advantace of elderly people who just don't know

Not while I'm here :nkoHammer:
