Hey folks. I just want to say; just because you’re vaccinated against Covid, doesn’t mean you won’t get it and it won’t hit you HARD.

I was vaccinated only a couple of months ago, and as of yesterday I’ve had a 101f fever, my skin hurts, I cannot stop sweating, ridiculously fatigued, and my nose is like a tap. It’s also seemed to have caused an arthritis flare, and my hands are all swollen, and my back hurts so much.

Wear a goddamn mask please.

I am a parent in Canada, and I support schools who don’t out trans kids to their parents.

Children are not our property.

Children have a right to know that LGBTQA+ people exist.

Children have a right to their own bodies and feelings.

I am very against the hate parade who think they have ‘parent rights’ to force schools to deny the existence of LQBTQA+ people. I want my child to know that they can be whoever they are.

We had Covid in October, and I completely lost my sense of smell and taste (except for being able to tell if something is vaguely sweet/salty/sour/bitter).

It’s officially been 2 months since that day, and I have gradually got a tiny bit of smell back.

A tiny bit. One very specific group of smells.

Apparently. I can only smell farts.
Other people’s farts.

ONLY other people’s farts...

This is absolutely as terrible as you can imagine.

According to some people on reddit, stretched UVs now apparently means AI generated art, and I am here to tell you; stretched UVs have been a fact of life in 3D assets for games ever since we started using textures on 3D models that were placed using UV maps I mean DO YOU KNOW HOW WE USED TO DO THE SHINE ON GLASS PANES IN COMPUTER GAMES BEFORE WE HAD SHADERS!?

Some guy is bothering all the devs on my husband’s team on linkedIn to add something to their game, literally going through the credits and contacting every dev mentioned. I cannot stress how much this sort of level of batshit idea 1) does NOT get your thing in game, and 2) ensures that a large portion of those devs and their families do not feel safe.

Do not fucking do this kind of shit.

Don’t want to be licked by a cyclist you are pushing into the gutter? Advocate for more bike Infrastructure far, far away from roads.

I had to peel a lemon because tiny person wanted to do a science experiment. So, because I had to look at it, so do you.

I don’t know why, but it gives me the heebie-jeebies.

If anyone in the greater Montréal area is looking for a Santa experience that is a little more suited to neurodiverse kids; the Santa at Dix30 is pretty good (and free).

The queue is outside, and is a safe wandering space for kids who need to move, and is fairly quiet. It’s ok if you have a grown-up wait in the queue while another wanders about with kiddo. Inside the cottage it is warm, the music is low and the lights are low. The elves, Santa, and mrs Christmas are very nice too. 10/10

Right. No headache today, and the road is damp but not covered in snirt, so I feel a little confident about maybe riding the bike to the shops, rather than walking it.

If I can bike it, I can go to the fabric shop which has a sale on a bunch of fabrics I’ve had my eye on. I’ve got a cape, panniers, and possibly a few curtains to make. Also want to make a squid hat for meeee.

Tiny person asked to play Cinema this morning and to actually watch a movie (Spider-Man), so while she was at school, I got the living room ready to turn it into a pretend cinema, complete with snacks, juice, and popcorn. Gave myself a little pat on the back for end-of-term fun surprise etc etc.

Gets home;

Me: You ready to watch Spider-Man in mum’s Cinema?

TP: Let’s watch Spider-Caleb.

Me: wai-

TP: it’s on YouTube.

Me: ...not Spider-man?

TP: no, you can watch Spider-Man later.

Me dad is apparently being discharged from hospital today, because his recovery is going so well!! 🎉

They had warned us before that he could be in for 10 days and upto 3 weeks, and here he is, got his bags packed at 7 days 😆

If you are in the UK and get offered ‘Pre-hab’ before scheduled surgery, take it. Follow the plan and STICK TO IT. Dad’s been their star pupil, and it’s paid off (previously, dad was sedentary, and didn’t get out much). It really works.

Fills me full of joy when someone asks about a Lomi ‘composter’ on the gardening reddit, and the replies are all folks calling out Lomi for being an entirely useless, expensive bit of kit.

Don’t buy a Lomi, it’s just an expensive dehydrator, and adding that stuff uncomposted to your plants is going to cause mold. Yes, mold is essential in composting; but it’s not something you want on your houseplants yet. You want finished compost, that will actually do something for your plants.

As society reverts to the 70s, I can feel myself getting angrier about bras.

If you need or like them, please carry on.

But with certain aerobic exceptions, I find bras useless at best. At worst, they’re painful. They’re also expensive and labour-consuming.

All that just because other people are weird about the fact of boobs and incapable of minding their own business.

Picked up a portable Bluetti battery in the sales, and I'm suddenly feeling a lot better about if there is another ice storm this year.

The one last year was hard. 5 days with the power out. We were lucky that the apartment we were renting had an oil furnace, so we didn't freeze, and lived close enough to hub's office that we could go there to charge lamps and devices, but we don't have either of those things available to us this year.

This battery means we can charge all lamps, phones, devices, and still have a little left over for a small heater for a couple of hours. It's 1 hour fast charging so we can take it somewhere with power to charge it up.

Next step is to get a little propane buddy heater, but that's going to have to wait a bit.
