As part of their aggressive attempt to get people to replace their old headsets, Facebook's Quest 1 headsets, released in 2019, will be barred from purchasing any app on the Quest store released after April 30, even if that app would have supported the Quest 1 when sideloaded.

The aggressive deprecation schedule really makes me baffled why anyone would trust Facebook with their money here. This is a novelty/nice-to-have device, not something you upgrade every 2 years.

@mcc I lost all respect for Oculus the moment they sold to Facebook.

And this isn't the first time they've given the middle finger to users of older hardware, either. They screwed over GearVR owners.

Someone made a comment, and I'd like to address it for everyone.

The comment:

"Addressing outrage surely must be exhausting and you've provided tools and resources to help us. But there's plenty of stuff that flies above the heads of us laypeople that isn't hair-on-fire panic that I turn to you for understanding."

I do not believe the news is "above the heads of laypeople."

I think the laypeople are being confused and made to believe it is over their heads.

The fact that A.I. doesn't exist, but we call all the different types of machine learning "A.I." because it's more marketable, is a perfect representation of how humanity would rather worship a lie that sells, than a boring truth.

I really hate scare-mongering ads like this. He has plausible deniability, since it was sent by a PAC and not his campaign, but an ad like this still immediately disqualifies him in my opinion.

I’m a big Phil Spencer fan, but I think the recent business strategy moves being taken with Xbox feels like it’s probably the beginning of the end of the platform in a meaningful way, from a customer point of view.

Xbox Game Pass will get rebranded Microsoft Game Pass next I think. I suspect Xbox would have performed better had MS sold it.

Just remembered another minor tech hype from a few years ago when Silicon Valley douchebros wanted to sell everyone on wireless charging at a distance (like plug something into outlet and it uses magical waves to beam power to your phone and laptop)

It's cool how you can't call your local post office on the phone when there's an obvious issue with a package to you that gets loaded in a truck in a slightly different (but wrong) zipcode every day for three days now and mysteriously fails to be delivered

@notjustbikes I met a lovely lady from the Netherlands the other day. My small talk was "there's a YouTube channel I watch that's made by a guy who moved there." She immediately replied: "Oh, Not Just Bikes? Yeah, I love that channel."
