It is a strange feeling being in a roomful of people most of whom, a year ago, you would have felt totally comfortable with. But now, not so much. Very very strange.
I'm just doomscrolling and keeping my head down. Seems to be working.

I really like the word parsimonious, but I fear it may not be the simplest way to say parsimonious, or at least not the simplest as read by a general audience.
Sat down at 9:00 this morning thinking I would start in to converting a bunch of slides/notes/course material from RMarkdown to Quarto and three and a half hours of yak-shaving later I have made no progress whatsoever and instead find myself far, far down a rabbit hole wondering if it’s feasible to write something that will parse the AST of the files so that I can systematically make the many required adjustments. (To be clear, it absolutely is not.)
As SBF is convicted, let us pause for a moment and remember all the Grate Branes at Sequoia Capital and many, many other places who fell for this shit hook, line and sinker.
@quadrivial@kjhealy Those were the days. Good old-fashioned capitalism, none of this "system critical" shit... which, ah, was another point it seems SBF forgot...
@quadrivial@kjhealy Lots of things in finance were. But I think the most important thing about that era was that it was probably the last time that recent high finance CEOs could be found on the streets selling shoelaces.
The old guard has been pretty good at arranging things so that this doesn't happen ever since. SBF thinking he belongs to some sort of new guard ... sorry, I have to take a break to laugh for a few minutes
