@Unabart@dobbs.town

Yep, I’ve been there. Lifetime nomad. Nerd. Rocker. Slacker. Professional button pusher and amateur knob twiddler.

Already too radical to be radicalized. Unfiltered, unfettered and understandably unbenign.

I don’t care what you want to be, what you want to do, or how you want to act. Just don’t expect me to do it, agree to it, or make it an issue for me. I really, truly, honestly do not care. Leave me out of it.

Please don’t fuck with me. I’m asking nicely.

If your music is on Spotify, why? Are you so successful that you enjoy subsidizing Spotify executives' extravagant lifestyles?

@mathowie That looks like Mission Valley, San Diego. And not an uncommon site, if so.

I would love to see more accounts about on the fediverse.

Compost is a fantastic tool that can help us balance the . The more we talk about it, the more we can inspire people to start this wonderful habit.

Our habits make us, and talking about positive habits is a good thing in the toxic environment social media can be.

I would be honored if we had a community of accounts that talk about it, and you can be sure that you will be boosted, and followed and not feel like is a void.

I'm currently thinking about how to best add (Atom) feeds to my new site, but I have never really used feed readers…

Can someone tell me about what's considered best practice? I'm pretty much out of my depth here.^^

Can feeds be paginated or do I have to decide whether I want to only hand out the n latest items or all of them, ever?

Is there a distinction between teasers and full views?

Unabart,
@Unabart@dobbs.town avatar

@phryk Please let me read the full article in my reader. Unless you're fishing for ad impressions, in which case forget it altogether :)

Full view - this is the way!

Unabart,
@Unabart@dobbs.town avatar

@phryk @ttk If I have to click on anything, I am out. I'm typically reading this on my tablet and any additional effort isn't worth it. Most feed readers let you collapse the article or just display the title by default. Let the end user decide, is my vote

    @mxtthxw if we stick to the Peter Green era, then it gets my vote!

    Low ticket prices, that was typical for punk rock/hardcore concerts

    Fugazi at Irving Plaza, New York City, April 4, 1995. Tickets are a super cheap $6 👍

    @historyofpunkrock I was at a gig in 1993 that was Gang Green, Agent Orange, RKL and The Vandals for $7, if I recall. It definitely wasn’t double digits. And that was an epic night of punk rock. A lot of the clubs back then made their money at the bar and a lineup like that brought out the drinkers. I remember hearing about Fugazi threatening to pull out of gigs over ticket prices. Always chalked it up to Mr. Sanctimonious MacKaye getting some easy PR while starving his bandmates.

    @mxtthxw I won’t even go the extra step. Fuck it. Nothing on the internet, behind a paywall, is worth the effort. If your business model is to charge people to read content that will be readily available elsewhere, then your business model is a failure. I sure it’s littered with ads and privacy nightmare tracking, even if you paid. Burn it all down. The web is dead, ruined by marketing and greed.

    Honestly if someone wants a refund and they do a return it can be easier than trying to support them in some cases.

    Welcome to the land of partial sanity, iPhone users!

    Dune: Part Two was rad. With the story fluff out of the way, this gets right at it. They had those floating flea looking things that I killed thousands of in the video games over the years. Wish I had the rom to fire up the NES game right now. That was the genesis of the Command & Conquer games. Westwood Studios was killing it back then.

    I don’t use Discord for anything. They keep emailing me saying my username will expire. No, not the phishing emails. I used it once when a pirate iptv service I was using had its help desk setup on there. Amazingly fast and polite service. Eventually dude got busted or exit-scammed, so it went dark. I tried the FlipperZero chat rooms and it was a dumpster fire. The whole experience was like the very worst of Reddit, on steroids, in real time. Not for me.

    It's been years since I looked at Engadget but somehow I just ended up there and it seems to be one giant ad for Samsung phones.

    Are there any objective gadget blog/sites out there where I can read about new devices and products without feeling like I'm being pitched at? Or is that all a thing of the past now?

    I should note I'll never ever pay for a subscription to anything, if that narrows down the list of available options.

    @flockofnazguls I did the same thing. Transported all my subs over to Lemmy, though 50% of them are dead. Users are complaining that the SDF Lemmy isn’t federating properly, which might explain the cricket farm. I suppose I need to get on a properly maintained instance, but I’m an SDF supporter, so thick and thin, I guess.

    Unabart,
    @Unabart@dobbs.town avatar

    @flockofnazguls The whole federated concept makes it much easier to filter and maintain a feed free of the bullshit. This is why I always harshly resist those that call for blocking instances and shit like that. The end user is taking the time to collect these sources they want to follow… let the end user decide what they want to block or not see or the federation will end up just a bunch of private forums again.

    @historyofpunkrock Butthole Surfers. Hearing their first EP turned my musical tastes on its head. I bought it solely for the name and album cover in 1984. And that was right about the time Night Flight was showing “Urgh! A Music War” clips. Upstate NY was a black hole void for punk rock, so getting hands on the music was hard. In 85, we moved to San Diego and the floodgates were opened. I wouldn’t go to a show until 1986 with The Vandals and DRI, which got shutdown before we got in.
