By the way, I use GNOME OS. Before it is cool.

Valentin,

@pid_eins This is nice. Though I predict that the shared glibc and dynamic linker will become a headache to make work everywhere. I wonder if adding a RootDirectory= in the service file pointing to the flatpak runtime would help. And have some BindPaths to have host root available to load debuginfo.

Anyone in my network interested in research and prototype network portal for Flatpak?

In the long run we are interested in:

• Give more control to users over app network access
• Allow apps that need network access to be considered “Safe”

We expect something like unsharing the network namespace and a bridge on the host for permissions / monitoring.

Valentin,

@sonny @wjt where is BitTorrent illegal?

Valentin, to random

If on a btrfs file system, you create files 4294967296 times, then 32 bits binaries stop working (if they call stat). So do not put your build cache on the same filesystem as your old Steam games.

Adobe uses Linux / GNOME in a new product demonstration.

Valentin,

@sonny I had worked on software that ran very well on Linux and was not released for it. Customers had no idea and had to run Windows Server. The problem has always been sales people.

OS devs: please provide regularly-refreshed install images/ISOs with your cumulative updates between major releases.

I don't love downloading your entire multi-GB OS image just to have to wait for hours for all the updates to the OS and included apps to download and install.

Also, security updates! If CVEs have been fixed since your release, you're shipping known-insecure software, expecting a user to install all updates before they do anything on the web.

Valentin,

@cassidy I have seen a laptop getting rooted on fresh install before it managed to download the updates.

Monthly online Show & Tell + social event ? :gnome:

The idea would be to have a monthly gathering where anyone can present anything.

It would be moderated and planned in advance.

A bit like a tiny GUADEC

The social event could be an online game or activity.

Please reply with comments/thoughts/ideas

Valentin,

@jsparber @sonny There people who live in underpopulated areas and difficult to travel from. For them it is easy to feel isolated from the group when others can meet easily.

Do you use ? Do you also use or ?

The is a community effort, automated from the official release. That feels a bit off for your password manager; the thing that holds all your secrets.

A community post from 2021 asking them to maintain it only got 211 votes, 117 likes, and 46 comments but over 10k views. I and other folks commented and said we'd be happy to help, but never heard back.

Maybe give the post some attention?

Valentin,

@cassidy @ted that depends on whether you have apparmor enabled on that system. But I agree it is kind of a pain. Especially if you want to also use selinux. Which is not possible with an unpatched kernel. I do have confinement when running snaps on GNOME OS for instance. So it is not impossible to have confinement without Ubuntu.

I’m gonna dip my toes into volunteering as a Flatpak/Flathub developer advocate—basically, providing a human contact at a real company that can help larger apps/companies get their apps in front of Linux (and thus Steam Deck!) users.

What are some of the biggest apps you think are missing from Flathub—or for apps already there, which are the ones you’d like to see verified?

Valentin,

@cassidy I have a few flatpaks that would be nice to be given to the developers. But I have no idea who to contact. Albion Online. Behringer X-Air.

What is an actually controversial Linux opinion you hold?

Valentin,

@gamingonlinux Fragmentation is a good thing.

I got a new device to test drive with secure boot and full encryption. Finally fixed tpm_crb. Now it runs.
