@RickiTarr I was a D&D playing, science fiction convention attending, Ren Faire actor, punk rock kid but one of the good things about North Hollywood at the time was it was not that much of a thing. A good portion of the local kids (from near the hills) had parents who worked in the TV/Movie industry and the school bussed in 1/3 of the students from Compton. It somehow all meshed.

Alright y'all, whenever I see something funny, I save it to show you all, but then I forget, so now I have a small backlog. So, here's a couple of things to give you a chuckle, and feel free to share a couple of your own if you have them!

Why would a rich famous guy marry a 34 year old woman? If you started immediately you MIGHT be able to have two kids. And she’s publicly had sex with a ton of guys. Despite her wealth she’s very low quality for any successful male. Just seems weird and almost like he’s a L= Why would a successful man want a middle aged woman who’s always on tour? @ned We have a public utility here in Clark County, WA and it is measurably better than anything I've ever lived with. Very responsive to the community, keeps rates low, highly reliable, does not set the state on fire and then try to deny it. That last one is a biggie for me.

To those who say "capitalism doesn't force people to do anything. They have free will", if someone put a gun to the head of someone, would that not be a use of force? And how would you feel if the gunman said "I'm not forcing you to do anything. You have the freewill not to give me your money." But if you don't then you'll die, just like the worker will die if they don't do what the capitalist says.

@DEDGirl For me, Nestle buying up water storage rights in CA convinced me once and for all that climate change was inevitable. The act showed perfectly what Nestle saw coming (degradation of the snow pack as a water source) and what they saw their correct path of action as (treat climate change as a disruption one can take advantage of for short term gains.) I couldn’t imagine a corporation who would ultimately act any differently.

@RickiTarr First, I just got up from a bleary night, so grade it on a curve…and then spent 5 minutes trying to explain the joke, which seemed snappy at the time and mostly referenced a “hold my beer” mentality but if you have to explain a joke, you probably shouldn’t have made it in the first place and I’m going to go have coffee now. @RickiTarr Raised by single Mother who most likely had Borderline Personality Disorder. Never met my father , birth certificate reads "Mother-refuses-to-state" which is saying something for 1964. First time I saw my mother try to take her life, I was 5. She finally successfully ended it when I was 15. Lived with my grandparents after that.

@RickiTarr @Tergenev I had a situation 10 years ago where I was working freelance social media promotion with in publishing. I was pushing a 50 Shades of Gray/BDSM for beginners book for Weldon Owen. I chatted up the editor of Penthouse Forum in Twitter (lovely woman named Alison) and ended up in a decent joke circle with 2 Penthouse pets and the editor.

@RickiTarr @Tergenev 2 months later I’m up for a marketing director gig with a computer book publisher, in the very last rounds when I get a call from HR. There was “concern” over some of the jokes made in the twitter conversation with the Penthouse editor. Ended up not getting the job because of it. The editor was mortified. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

@RickiTarr @Tergenev Oh yeah. It was also a big warning at what working there would have been like. We live in a panopticon now and life will be like living in a fucking medieval shame-cart-put-the-wife-in-stocks village until we sort out boundaries. I’m hoping we look back on this nonsense the way we look at putting radium and cocaine in toothpaste a 100 years ago.

I wish I could truly make people understand how much of a cult Conservative Fundamentalism is, and how much it truly brainwashes you. It is easy to say, "How can those people be so stupid, how can they not see?", but unless you've been inside it, you cannot understand how much effort is put into making sure that people cannot understand or see.

@ProgressiveRaymond @RickiTarr It sort of comes down to not calling these people idiots to their faces while they explain how easy it was to accept that elected democrats steal babies for blood rituals trafficked through pizza parlors. I know this sounds like I’m pouring gasoline on the problem but I’ve seen conversations fail on essentially this point.
