Where the hell does a #news station get off characterizing #overtime#pay as an #income transfer like the #government & #worker are stealing from #employers ?
.
“In its first year, the rule is expected to result in an income transfer of about $1.5 billion from employers to workers..”
| Take a look at this info-graphic. The disparity is absurd, and the 99% does need a raise. But while we're fighting for 15, we need to look beyond raising the minimum wage…
We cry shame on the #feudal baron who forbade the #peasant to turn a clod of #earth unless he surrendered to his #lord a fourth of his crop. We call those the barbarous times. But if the forms have changed, the relations have remained the same, and the #worker is #forced, under the name of free contract, to accept feudal obligations. For, turn where he will, he can find no better conditions. Everything has become private property, and he must accept, or die of #hunger. #communism#peterkropotkin
Collective action and solidarity among #workers, even in non-traditional settings like schools or community organizations, can wield significant influence in challenging unjust authority and advancing #worker empowerment. Participating in or forming a #union provides a vital avenue for amplifying workers' voices and advocating for their rights, making it a preferable option to remaining unaffiliated.
Under #capitalism, our employers don't care about our lives and safety, only profit. Profit is always prioritized above the #worker's well-being to the #capitalists. We need collective action and solidarity among workers to challenge capitalist exploitation and demand safer working conditions and equitable treatment. Don't take no for an answer. Unionize, Organize, Agitate!
The struggle against #capitalism doesn't end after one big #strike or #protest. Working-class liberation is an ongoing pursuit that won't end until every last #worker in the entire world is free from exploitation, inequality, and oppression, and it won't end a second before. #communism
To those who say "capitalism doesn't force people to do anything. They have free will", if someone put a gun to the head of someone, would that not be a use of force? And how would you feel if the gunman said "I'm not forcing you to do anything. You have the freewill not to give me your money." But if you don't then you'll die, just like the worker will die if they don't do what the capitalist says.
What’s Missing From #Railroad Safety Data? Dead Workers and Severed Limbs.
Thanks to #government loopholes, rail companies haven’t been scrutinized by the Federal Railroad Administration for scores of alleged #worker injuries and at least two deaths.
#RTO doesn’t improve company value, but does make #employees miserable: Study
Data is consistent with bosses using RTO to reassert control and #scapegoat#workers.
Someone posted earlier about how our system gives the illusion of interaction without any actual change happening, and it's absolutely 200% true.
The regulatory agencies that are ostensibly for #worker health and safety, or to restrict corporate malfeasance and destruction, are pretty much nothing more than wet cardboard facades.
For the worker to make as much as Musk’s wealth increased in 2023, $92 billion, the worker would have to work over 979,600 years.
Musk’s wealth growing over $252 million in an average day in 2023 means that it grew more than $10.5 million in an average hour which comes to more than $175,000 in a single minute.
The greatest triumph of #capitalism?
make us believe that the other #worker is our enemy
Today and tomorrow there is a public bus strike in the urban area of #Vancouver, upon seeing some comments most of them question the right to #strike. Yes, it's hard to not have buses for two days, but isn't it a benefit to everyone that they can't #fire us? Isn't #inflation a problem for everyone? Don't we deserve a #minimumwage? We are more like a driver than a CEO
Elon Musk is trying to export #Tesla’s anti-union model to Sweden, and workers across Scandinavia are launching solidarity actions to thwart him. We should be embracing the Nordic countries’ model of strong worker rights, not Tesla’s #Elitists union busting.
"Sometimes the most important thing a teacher can do is model what it means to be a professional in their discipline. For example, #faculty demonstrate through their own principled actions what being a #professor is all about—being a responsible learner, being reflexive and critical about information, being creative and precise. Another thing that faculty should model is self-respect and how to assert their right to #worker#SelfManagement."
On one hand a consolidated pension that stays with the #worker as they shift jobs & which employers are required to make contributions to, sounds like one way of avoiding fragmentation.
But the key issue is whether the providers will match what firms with long-established #pensionfunds can offer.
the 'devil will be in the detail', but on the surface seems the most sensible thing he's said this week?
Many of the #HospitalWorkers taking part carried 189 placards bearing names of a #healthcare#worker#killed in Gaza. Organisers said that in the time it took for the names to be printed, several more would have died.
Sharing this piece I co-authored with my @ceprdc colleague Sylvia Allegretto on where the focus should be with respect to #UAWOnStrike. We need to be paying attention to what the #strike means for the #workers involved, and how their fight speaks to the core issues of #worker#power and #economic#inequality.
State and federal agencies are scrambling to find measures to combat what experts call one of the harshest and most neglected effects of climate change in the U.S.: rising heat deaths and injuries of people who work in triple-digit temperatures.
