A story about Meta that Meta has banned. According to rhetoric author, Meta has also banned links to the site where the article was first published.
Here's the column Meta doesn't want you to see

How did Brits ever get "Spain" from "España"? 🤔

None of the vowel signs and not even all of the consonant sounds.

apodoxus,
@apodoxus@mastodon.online avatar

@JeremyMallin What? They're almost identical. Both are pronounced "sp-n."

apodoxus,
@apodoxus@mastodon.online avatar

@JeremyMallin True but close enough... Seems like nitpicking to me. Deutchland is Germany in English and Tyskland in Swedish. That's plenty of other nonsensical examples compared to missing one soft consonant.

is exploitation. There's no way you can have a system that doesn't exploit workers. Even if you try to make it more tolerable through policies and legislation, the inherent nature having to work for those who exclusively own the means of production in order to survive will always be exploitative.

apodoxus,
@apodoxus@mastodon.online avatar

@Radical_EgoCom I would like to add that some reforms are more (or less) conductive to revolution than others.

Restarted reading ”The Dark Forest” by Liu Cixin, which is the second book in the Three Body Problem -trilogy.

Refreshing my memory before the second season on Netflix comes out, so I can compare better!

apodoxus,
@apodoxus@mastodon.online avatar

@gimulnautti The English series is out now or do you mean the same Chinese one?

apodoxus,
@apodoxus@mastodon.online avatar

@gimulnautti I've only seen about half of the Chinese one and it's very faithful to the book except one aspect and maybe you can guess that if you read the books and know how China is.

Some of it is exactly how I imagined it though. It also doesn't even leave out all the accurate technical stuff. I've never seen any show do that.

apodoxus,
@apodoxus@mastodon.online avatar

@gimulnautti Exactly. They took out all the stuff criticizing the cultural revolution as far as I can tell. I recall that being very early on in the books and I'm way past that in the story.

apodoxus,

@ai6yr Just be grateful that's your choice. I get to pay $400 a year to H&R Block since my expat taxes are a bit complcated.

apodoxus,
@apodoxus@mastodon.online avatar

@ai6yr Fuck. Well, I heard they're trying to automate things, doing a trial run in some states this year. I have a feeling the Big Tax lobby will win again.

You know how long it took me to do my Swedish taxes? ALL of it took five minutes and cost me nothing and my Swedish taxes are even more complicated than my American ones! 😆 The difference being that Swedes know about these things called computers which I hear process data pretty well.

apodoxus,
@apodoxus@mastodon.online avatar

@ai6yr Okay well, let me make it up to you by saying like 30% of the population is voting for a fascist party and neoliberalism has destroyed most of what foreigners know as the good things about Sweden before any of that started. 😅 Still the best country in the world, but the world kinda sucks, right? So... haha

  • feed chickens
  • clear out the spot for the potato tower, and put the base on the cleared spot
  • see about sifting more compost

I think so far I've only seen one article in a leftist magazine about this and it was basically like "It's complicated but there are anti-colonial tendencies involved."

Neoliberalism was the means by which the rich dismantled the consensus around social democracy, progressive taxation, welfare and public services in order to amass wealth and material inequality similar to the time of absolute monarchs.
Fascism is the chosen means by which they secure and preserve those gains.
