Who has watched the Three Body Problem on Netflix? I think I'm going to start it this weekend. I was extremely skeptical about it because of how badly the producers screwed up Game of Thrones, but heard it's good. Probably because they didn't have to write any original content 😂 I tried the Chinese version, and it's great, but I had a really hard time keeping up with the subtitles.

I've been staying up too late reading the second book in the 3 Body series.

Although the concepts in the first book are epic, the second book feels more action-packed and exciting. It's not all talking characters, but stuff is happening. It makes me want to keep reading to find out more.

Chinese science fiction history shapes Netflix's '3 Body Problem' influence - FRIDAY ANALYSIS

I don’t often get to indulge my appreciation of Sinology, i.e., the study of Chinese history and culture, but Netflix’s new science fiction series “3 Body Problem” has piqued the curiosity of many people unaware of the country’s expansive Sci-Fi connections.

Could the planetary system in "3 Body Problem" — a system where the stars are so close in their orbits that their motion becomes random — exist? Peter Watson, emeritus professor of physics at Carleton University, writes for @TheConversationUS about chaotic systems and how stochastic problems are like drunk people trying to get around. "You cannot predict where the next step will take him, but you can say that he will eventually reach the door." Article contains spoilers for Netflix's "3 Body Problem."

I wish they’d make the sequels to the OG Three Body. Because it was brilliant! They stayed true to the book. I can’t comment on acting though, this was the first time I watched anything Chinese.
Anyway if you get the chance, go watch it. It’s on Prime video (in USA). Highly recommend

They had 30 episodes on the original (Chinese) series of three body (I’m at 21) and only 8 on the Netflix one? How are they ever gonna explain so much complexity??

This one is so well made, the Netflix version better pull some miracle if it wants to impress me.

As for , I'm finding I prefer the Chinese version from Tencent, though it moves more slowly . I'm at about episode 11.

The reaction on Chinese social media to Netflix's adaptation of "The Three-Body Problem" has been mixed, but Vox's Aja Romano argues that depictions of nationalistic outrage are probably exaggerations. She unpacks the response to this adaptation, the book trilogy, and Tencent's "Three Body," and says this time around, the problem is Netflix, not Chinese viewers.

One of my main problems with popular media (especially TV shows and movies) in depicting atheists or nonbelievers in general is that writers seem to think we talk about God a lot.

I'm like, uh, no? The whole point of not believing in God is that he doesn't occupy any of my headspace about 99.99999999% of the time unless someone brings up the topic in my presence.

The main thing that bothers me about "3 Body Problem" so far is the suggestion that if lots of science experiments started having weird results suddenly, physicists would be all "well, science is broken, might as well pack it in", as opposed to "whoa, this is amazing, we need more funding to study this phenomenon!".

"Dune," "Foundation" and "The Three Body Problem" were all supposedly unfilmable, and yet here we are. With that in mind, the A.V. Club's William Hughes writes about other sci-fi novels that deserve their shot at the big screen, including "The Caves Of Steel" by Isaac Asimov and Ursula K. Le Guin's "The Left Hand Of Darkness." Tell us in the comments which classic science-fiction stories you'd love to see on film or TV — and if there are any existing adaptations you think shouldn't have been made.

Finished on and loved it. As an admirer of Cixin Liu and his novels, I was unsure how well a Western production would capture the spirit of the original. But I must say, this was expertedly done, even with and because of the changes made. More of that, can’t wait how bonkers it will get on screen with the adaptation of the second and third novel!

I've completely forgotten about Netflix's adaptation of the Chinese novel the Three-body Problem, which premiered last March 21st.

  • Only 8 episodes with a total of 42 minutes according to Trakt.

So, yeah, let's dig in so we can compare it with Tencent's adaptation that aired around the same time a year ago (which was longer and epic).

The beginning of the Three body problem is tough to watch. I knew they’d have to film it, but wasn’t prepared for how much it upset me. My family were academics in China during this time. One of the big reasons why they fled the country and I now live in Australia 😭

is abuzz on Netflix. Fans of the books are saying it's a cool show, but it runs a bit fast and underestimates the audience – The Chinese show is better.

Here's the excellent news: Tencent is offering the Chinese show on YouTube free of charge!

So that's on my viewing list.
