So, am I right in thinking that the car doors on a Tesla are electrically operated, and can't be opened if the power fails?

How the hell is that safe?!

appelgriebsch,
@appelgriebsch@fosstodon.org avatar

@andycarolan They have manual switches for opening the doors. Esp. on front doors they are prominently placed and can be easily accessed: https://www.tesla.com/ownersmanual/modely/en_eu/GUID-AAD769C7-88A3-4695-987E-0E00025F64E0.html

Crazy: is able to build and deliver the car faster than it took the bank to check the financial contract… so after some days delay I was able to pick it up today. What a huge upgrade from my previous driving experience…

Gina, to Travel
@Gina@fosstodon.org avatar

Sometimes I envy how uncomplicated my parents' life was through pure limitation. Example: they'd go to the travel agency and get a book of ready made vacations. These are the destinations and hotels you can choose from, you pick a date and we'll book a flight. The price is what the price is. We've been there, we know it's good. There are no other options. Simple.

Nowadays I'm burned out from looking at all the options, all the price manipulations, the vpns, the reviews, the scams. Ugh.

@Gina we travel to for more than 10 years for vacation… and it still works for us. I guess you need to find the place you feel right at home in short amount of time

What to do if your new M3 Mac shows up with an old, non-updatable macOS version

You'll want to update for security fixes, even if you don't care about features.

Recording of the stream where we implement (part of) a BitTorrent client in is now up. We followed a set of challenges from codecrafters.io and got nearly all the way through even with a power outage! I do love implementing protocols… 😅

@jonhoo awesome. watching the 2nd part of it. was a bit surprised when the stream just ended in the middle of something and thought MY internet was broken :D

appelgriebsch,
@appelgriebsch@fosstodon.org avatar

@jonhoo btw: instead of a visitor for deserializing a struct field in a special way I recently used the serde deserialize_with attribute a lot....

 #[serde(deserialize_with = "crate::utils::deserialize_threshold_value")]
 threshold: u32

Wouldn't that work in the first part of the stream as well?

@deadparrot thanks for the nice talk at . Esp. the proposal to think about how the data flows through the app was helping me a lot in the past to improve my based Web service quite a lot. Still need to check for "unnecessary" memory allocations as I'm running in a constrained embedded context... will research a bit more and if I found something will likely blog about it :)

@deadparrot looks like someone did so already and shows how to use heaptrack on Linux to optimize memory usage of applications: https://blog.kolo.app/optimising-rust-memory.html

@schizanon I just discovered the extension firefoxpwa (https://github.com/filips123/PWAsForFirefox), tried it and quite like it. It's even better than usual support in browsers in that sense that it creates a custom profile for every app so that they can't share cookies and stuff....

My personal sign that I „made it“? Being able to afford Knipex pliers. They are not cheap. I always said to myself that they are overpriced. They might be. But damn, they are also very reliable and high quality. So I invested in two of them. (They were also 17% discounted ;)

appelgriebsch,
@appelgriebsch@fosstodon.org avatar

@jwildeboer I guess part of the problem is that things are no longer built to last… they have a build-in expiration period so you have to renew them over time :(

Liebe , hier ist die Reihenfolge:

  1. Tempolimit, und zwar 120 auf Autobahnen. 30 in allen Ortschaften/Kommunen/Städten.
  2. Ausbau der Radwege nach Vorbild Niederlande mit klarer, räumlicher Trennung nach Geschwindigkeit in 3 Stufen. Fußgänger, Fahrrad, Autos.
  3. Unfallzahlen abwarten und auswerten.
  4. Feststellen, daß eine Nonsens ist.

Gern geschehen.

Is there any way to install an up-to-date version on a installation? I’m flummoxed by not finding anything regarding this in the official documentation. 0.7.2 appears to be the only version available. Am I overlooking something or do I seriously have to manually download an or compile it from source?

Here you can find a link to Lenovo systems that support Fedora!: https://www.lenovo.com/linux

If Fedora is listed, you should be good. If Linux in general is listed then you should also be good except for those that have Nvidia cards - those will need a certain driver.

The Fedora Marketing Team is working with Lenovo to bring you a simplified view of what products ship or support Fedora, so be on the lookout for that!
