    Literally everyone should unionize.

    And this is why child rights are human rights.

    "Call me old-fashioned, but if I were a parent, I'd quite like to know whether my son, Sam, was showing up at school as Samantha."

    "If you don't already know, there's a reason she's not telling you.
    It's you. You're the problem."

    I get teary-eyed with joy when my CAT or my DOG try to communicate something with me: "awwh... She has a problem, and she trusts that I will try to figure it out and help her. Isn't that the sweetest thing?"

    I can only imagine how sappy I would be over having a HUMAN child that trusted me with their needs and wants. That sort of trust is EARNED (and learned). You have to show someone that you can be trusted and that you are on their side. No one can mandate trust.

    Hearing about limitations on abortion rights weirdly makes me want to have sex more.

    Not like in a kinky way per se.

    It's just reassuring when I think about this garbage to then have sex with a person with a penis who respects my bodily autonomy. Like, I need that reassurance that my sexuality and my body belong to ME. I need to feel that having sex does not negate my agency.

    The psychological and sexual damage of this battle for our rights should not be overlooked.

    Fascinating that the majority opinion admits that this infringes on the rights of women and concludes that it just doesn't matter.

    Under GOP rule, women don't have rights. And they're openly saying that.

    If the idea of violent protests don't make you at least little scared I wonder how well you know history. At the same time, real change almost never happens without people putting their bodies on the line.

    The right understands this far better than your average liberal/moderate. To be a moderate is to trust that existing systems will (mostly) work.

    If those systems fail? What then? To even consider this is moderate treason.

In his eyes I was so hateful because I was mean to racists.

    Which of the following musical artists has the greatest "albums per year" ratio? By that, I mean, the number of full length studio albums (excluding live albums, collabs, or compilations) recorded over the number of years they have been or were actively a recording artist or band.

    I was watching a video about Zack Snyder that showed a tweet where he said Batman fulfilled everyone's wish to stand alone against a corrupt system.

    That left me extremely confused.

    I don't think most of us dream of standing alone against a corrupt system. Why would I not wish to be surrounded by a whole host of people who also hate injustice and oppression?

    Why would my wish not be to overthrow a corrupt system rather than "stand alone"?

    artemis,
    @artemis@dice.camp avatar

    I just...I can't get over the fact that he thinks there is a universal wish to stand alone against the forces of injustice.

    It really brings my mind back to the years when I was still a Xian, trying to talk to other Xians about abuse in churches and families. I had some friends and support in that, but not much. Let me tell you...you do NOT want to stand alone against injustice. That way lies pain, burnout, and despair.

    I have actually only watched one of Snyder's films in its entirety, and I enjoyed it greatly: Army of the Dead, which was a fun zombie flick. It's not a favorite movie of mine and didn't make a ton of sense at times, but I don't hate Zack Snyder. He's capable of making a good movie (though honestly...as far as I can tell, that might actually be the only Snyder film I WOULD enjoy).

    I think Mastodon people should use the "like" button more.

    People are told not to like because liking doesn't broadcast posts like boosting does, and the site needs boosts. And replies are preferred because they're deeper engagement or something.

    But, on some level, we want people to keep using Mastodon. If someone posts something and followers like it, they know stuff is getting seen here and they'll want to keep using the site. I just don't see what's gained by holding back on the likes

    artemis,
    @artemis@dice.camp avatar

    @mrxmrt
    One of my favorite things about coming over to Mastodon is that I can like things without essentially boosting it into my followers' feeds.

    Sometimes you just want to say "hey, good post" to someone without shouting at everyone "come over here and look at this."

    I'd rather get a like on a post than no interaction at all. Now I know someone saw it and thought "hmm. Good point." or "interesting."

    Do I think accepting a bagel care package is an actual problem? No, but if you are one of the most powerful people in the country with pretty much no higher authority, you SHOULD be going over the top to avoid anything that might possibly be considered unethical.

    I am so confused by this shift. I still think of a search engine as an index. I'm looking to find relevant content on the web. But there's a lot of people to whom it's never occurred that that is how search engines were originally designed to work.

    More & more search engines are becoming a supposed source of truth instead of a tool for finding content, which I suppose is why they feel so broken to those of us who are still just trying to find things.

    For 6 years I travelled on the NYC subway, commuting for hours between Queens & the Bronx for work.

    When someone mentally ill was having a bad day, you gave them space. You left the car and hoped that someone better trained than you would help them get the help they needed.

    What you don't do is decide to practice your jiu-jitsu (I'm a purple belt in BJJ) because someone nearby is in pain. You don't use the training you do have to harm the train's most vulnerable person.

    Another axiom for aging:

    • It's time for some hard truths.
      If you're talking to someone thirty or under:
    • No, they've never heard of your favorite movie.
    • No, they've never heard of or read your favorite book.
    • No, they weren't alive and don't recall ever seeing your favorite TV show.
      I know it stings but it's better to face it now.

    It's definitely affected by upbringing too!

    I grew up in an extremely conservative household, so much of the entertainment media I consumed was stuff from my parent's generation because that was "safer".

    This is a common experience for people raised in those families/communities.

    So I guess what I'm saying is that when talking to a homeschooled person, the chances of them having encountered that older media are much higher than the general population.

    My company has an employee recognition program that really just amounts to submitting a nomination and then the employee is included in the monthly list of "Rock Stars" along with the reason you have for nominating them. The nomination can have your name on it or be anonymous. It's not all that exciting

    BUT some managers definitely include those RockStar nominations in performance reviews. So...that part makes it a good way to show appreciation.
