For my own peace of mind I am not going to read the Techno-Goatse essay, but from what I’m seeing in my timeline, it makes sense that Marc has gone with an Alex Jones look. https://fortune.com/2023/10/16/marc-andreessen-techno-optimist-manifesto-ai-50-billion-people-billionaire-vc/

badtux,

@Meyerweb Andreessen is such a tool. Always has been, ever since he decided that commercializing software written with government money was fine and dandy.

I think this might actually be the first time in my life I've been more horrified by some of the left than the right. The Ukraine war came close-ish, with some factions of the left siding with Russia due to distrust of the US (which, fair enough), and then tankies apparently being confused as to whether Russia is still socialist or not. But all of that was balanced out by the right trying to undermine Ukraine funding in favor of the most stupid shit ever.

But this week a lot of leftists who support Palestine somehow stumbled past the point and went straight for glorifying one of the most horrific massacres in recent history, openly supporting Hamas, and even straight up calling for the elimination of Israel. I always thought the right had a monopoly on overt racism and unjust violence, but apparently if you substitute in words like "decolonization" you can get some of the left to go full Nazi too.

badtux,

@malwaretech Saying that the solution to massacring civilians is not to massacre even more civilians is not glorifying massacres. It is the opposite.

I fully expect that Israel will massacre 100 Palestinians for each Israeli who died. Because that is what they do. This will not stop future massacres however, it will just feed more extremism amongst Palestinians who already believe that they are considered cockroaches rather than human by Israelis -- or by most Americans.

badtux,

@malwaretech Of course there is one possible way that Israel massacring Palestinians will stop Palestinians from massacring Israelis. And that is if Israel decides upon the Final Solution to the Palestinian problem.

Or as Stalin put it, "no people, no problem."

Too bad about the women and children. But Israelis just consider them to be cockroaches anyhow, vermin to be exterminated, so.

I feel like about one out of every ten ads I see on Youtube are transphobic propaganda from the Epoch Times, and each time it's like a punch in the gut. The ferocity—and money—with which the theocratic right is coming after trans people is terrifying.

badtux,

@dgoldsmith I wonder how many of these folks have even met a trans person. I've probably met one -- but if so, I didn't know it.

tips for teaching a to use a transparent door flap on a new litter box? He's used the box plenty, but if I put the flap on he seems to ignore it.

It's important for sealing in the odor so they're forced to go through the carbon filter

badtux,

@SirTapTap The smell is what tells them that's the place to go potty. No smell = no potty. Sorry to give you the bad news.

This cat with his stylish feral eartip sleeping on the folding chair next to my office chair is clearly totally stressed out by being indoors next to humans. He also snores.

badtux,

@Virginicus Thus why my cat is judging me.

McCoy is sitting down outside because I didn't want to store him between buying him on September 27, and deploying him on October 1 with the rest of the Halloween decorations. McCoy is this year's new Halloween decoration. He looks like he's enjoying the sunlight getting a tan, lol.

badtux,

@RadicalGraffiti They're not wrong. Every billionaire got there by claiming the work product of workers "employed" by them as their own property. It's basically a grift enabled by the fact that they monopolized so much capital in the first place using government guns on their behalf that workers can't create their own businesses and keep their own work product.

The difference between Twitter and Chernobyl is that people actually paid to tour Chernobyl (not inside the containment dome of course!). Well, and Chernobyl is less toxic.

When I said that the college athlete NIL law passing, transfer portal happening, hiring Black head coaches, and eventually, paying players would increase graduation rates and revenue for the NCAA, lots of y'all didn't believe me.

If you stayed up late watching Colorado vs CSU, now you get it.

Would you rather make:

A) 95% of $20 billion, but Black kids get next to nothing.

B) 50% of $50 billion, but you have to give $25 billion to Black people.

This math is surprisingly hard for racists.🤷🏿‍♂️

badtux,

@mekkaokereke Racists have always been more interested in being mean to black people than in profits. Locking black people out of hotels, restaurants, etc during segregation literally was turning away money but they did it anyhow.

That one always baffled me because yes planets in a star system often have an elliptical plane they stick to but up / down seems rather arbitrary. Seems to me north on the habitable planet would end up being “up”.

Emmett Brock was attacked by an LASD officer after he gave the officer "the finger" when he saw the officer berating a woman.

Then, because they're transphobic they did an invasive body inspection & charged him w/ "resisting arrest" (there was no reason for the arrest) Put him in the women's section.

Emmett's having a hard time so here is his legal fund. No one deserves this kind of treatment.

badtux,

@futurebird This is typical behavior by the L.A. Sheriff's Department. They are a bunch of brutal Okies who hate anybody who is different and bully and randomly assault people just because they can. They are a gang of thugs in blue and a disgrace to the entire law enforcement community and I am utterly unsurprised that one of their thugs beat up a school teacher using an idiotic pretext just because he could.

Why troops gained a reputation of "TikTok warriors" universally among and soldiers? Due to their excessive presence in social media, where they post obviously staged videos, firing at empty forest, sieging bushes and destroying lone trees.

Last year a staged video with Kadyrov himself allegedly visiting was identified as taken on a petrol station deep inside Russia. On another video of Kadyrovites reportedly giving away humanitarian help to civilians the food packages had clearly visible Ukrainian brands, implying theft or robbery from actual volunteers.

Kadyrovites are hated by diaspora and Russian soldiers, from whom they visibly distance, never going to the actual front line, and playing the role of barrier troops. For Ukrainian troops they are barely any threat, as they are rarely seen in battle.

Another story is "Akhmat" battalion, which is a distinct structure from Kadyrovites, still funded by Kadyrov, but composed of contract soldiers, mostly not Chechens, and actually taking part in battles much like many other Russian "private military companies".

A selection of their best "Rambo" style productions so far is presented below.

Kadyrovite soldier fiercely firing in an empty forest
Kadyrovite soldier fiercely firing in an empty forest while screaming "Khokhol, surrender!" in Russian with a terrible Caucasian accent
Kadyrovite soldier fiercely firing from two machine guns in an empty forest

badtux,

@kravietz Kadyrov has the right idea. Why risk the lives of you and your troops on a bullshit war? Instead try to convince Pootey you are supporting him via TikTok ops.

Russians built a replacement for the drowned cruiser "Moskva"

In Kerch, a ceremony was held to accept the Cyclone small missile ship into the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation. It became the first warship built at the Kerch Shipyard in 25 years.

RosSMI claims that the Cyclone is equipped with the latest air defense systems and is armed with a launcher for 8 Kalibr cruise missiles.

Looks like Harpoon or Neptune have a job.

video/mp4

badtux,

@Free_Press Lol. The Cyclone is a 600 ton corvette ordered from Kerch Shipyard in 2016, taking approximately four years to build from the time that its construction started in 2016 and then another three years to commission after its launch. The Moskva was literally 16x the size and 16x the capability. If you look at the satellite footage you will see that two more Karakurt-class corvettes are currently under construction in Kerch as part of that 2016 order.
