Well, I missed one of the rare good #monsterdon movies, but I helped some baby cats, so I guess that's okay. We have a new bottle-baby volunteer who just took in some high-risk kittens and they needed someone to drive about 45 minutes away to pick up an incubator for them from someone who had one to donate.
@trixter Yep. Many people don't realize all the work mom does taking care of young kittens. They can't even go to the bathroom on their own and you have to help them do that. And of course the feedings every few hours. Don't plan on getting good sleep for awhile. Newborn bottle babies are also high risk so the chances of losing some are very high. It's super rewarding but a lot of work and sometimes heartbreak.
Kitten Watch 2024 continues. Lilac is still holding out on us, but there is a lot of activity in her belly. The kittens are definitely restless. I will be surprised if we don't have little ones by the end of this coming week. In the meantime, Lilac continues to be very sweet and affectionate. She was found living outdoors, but it is obvious that she was once someone's pet.
I keep my browser's base font size a little larger by default, for my own readability's sake, and it's a great way to discover which sites assumed pixel-perfect layouts with no font size increases or reflow.

Is there a population shortage on Earth that I am unaware of?
Judging the childless as 'less worthy ' than those who have children is really saying a childless person has no place in society. It implies that human beings exist solely to procreate. People don't have kids for all kinds of reasons, none of which are anyone's business.
I leave you with this. Trump is a parent. Does that make him inherently more valuable to society than me, regardless of the kind of person he is?
In this week's Grammar Girl podcast, we learn that "mansion" comes from the French word for "house." It was originally just a regular house, but our tendency to think of French things as fancy led to "mansion" meaning a big, expensive house.
I also investigate a house-related familect: Why would a mother ask a daughter if a boy at school "gave her any house"?
I noticed that when the largest accessibility text sizes are in use my design requires that the user scroll through a lot of content if they just want to see the forecast charts. This is especially true on smaller devices.
I'm adding a button that lets you jump right to them.
We need to remove #Chosen from our sites since it has #accessibility issues (#screenreader users just hear "blank blank blank" when navigating options) and the project has been abandoned by Harvest.
I've prototyped a very lightweight multiple-select that just uses a fieldset and checkboxes with a tiny bit of css and js to visually collapse things when the focus is elsewhere.
Testing and feedback would be helpful, especially from users with #AssistiveTechnology
@mikemccaffrey The checkboxes are still accessible to a screen reader user in browse mode when the select is collapsed. Preferably, if the checkboxes are not visible on the page then they should not be visible to assistive tech either. I think you might need some sort of toggle mechanism here rather than automatically displaying when a checkbox has focus.
#Republicans should be very worried when the midterms go this badly for them. They’re losing “safe” seats at state levels. Voters are sending a message, even in red states.
Turns out a majority of Americans may prefer #democracy after all.
