What Iโ€™d like from todayโ€™s Apple iPad event:

  • Camera on the long side of the iPad (where it belongs)
  • Longer battery life
  • Faster processor (duh)
  • To not have #LineaSketch Sherlocked ๐Ÿ™

@gedeonm but isn't that because you're doing art-related work? drawing, painting, etc. is one of the few areas where the iPad excels for pro workflows. I wouldn't expect it to be getting in your way there. I think you're on the happiest path and likely the iPad is the absolute best device for your work (or so it would seem?)

I don't think they're likely to help those of us who do see sharp edges, but I hold out hope that Apple might be benevolent ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

@gedeonm I just wish I could draw on the iPad, it feels weird to me drawing on glass, but drawing is a hobby at most for me, so I probably just need to force myself to do it more

@gedeonm Was this a 2024 Ioniq 5? I have a 2020 Hyundai Tucson & had refused another ICE car from Hyundai given some of their engine issues, but I am considering the Ioniq 5 as a successor.

Busy with work & I totally missed the @Iconfactory announcement for Tapestry. Definitely worth an immediate backing & I had to tack on some sweet pins as well.

Amazing hand-drawn, redo of the animated intro of the 80โ€™s kids cartoon Thundercats. This took the artist about 2 months to complete, everything is hand-drawn, even the effects. Reminder - I created https://github.com/unixorn/internet-of-trash as a list of things that don't work well, have had the vendor try to force you to use the cloud for something that was locally controlled, or are otherwise a pain to use with home automation.

If something is supposedly for but is a pain to use with home automation, please add it to the list.

The goal is to have a warning list of products to avoid, especially for people new to or .

@unixorn @homeassistant While not as flagrant as the others, I think I'd put on this list. They force you into cloud-connected use. They have SD cards & RTSP firmware for their cameras, but the former still requires the app (and connection to their services) & the latter is just the least possible functionality. A properly built public API would fix much of their software-side issues.

Hardware-side is a different story as I think their products are lacklusterโ€ฆ

@gedeonm I honestly don't know what to believe. Some of the phrasing in that post makes me question:

"Anthony Rapp, SAG-AFTRA National Board member (and, incidentally, the individual who attempted to destroy Kevin Spaceyโ€™s career) was askedโ€ฆโ€

I'm not saying the complaints are wrong, but that framing is concerning to me given he was believed to be the victim in that situation.

I hoped they got a good contract as it's not just the A-list celebrities that make movies & TV workโ€ฆ

TLDR... it's fun & totally worth seeing

Unfortunately, while there are some valid criticisms & superhero fatigue, there are also people who didn't & won't watch it, yet have declared it bad without knowing anything about it. There seems to be some hating on the MCU lately & Brie Larson in particular.

With all the posts about #StargateSG1 I decided to take the plunge. Started by re-watching the original movie starring James Spader & Kurt Russell. I had forgotten a lot of it. The last 1/3 of the flick is forgettable but the entire world building/discovery is compelling.

The pilot of SG-1 picks up a year after the events of the film & so far I like it. Richard Dean Anderson as Russellโ€™s character is interesting. Heโ€™s now the alpha male instead of the nerd (Macgyver), interesting role reversal

@gedeonm The rules of the gate evolve over time and aren't really what you'd call "rock solidโ€. The show really is great and there's also the TV movies for . I rather enjoyed quite a bit as they change up the cast, rules and setting to make something fresh and you get Joe Flanigan (lots of fun as the lead) & Jason Momoa pretty early in his career. I've re-watched both series and it's still high up in my fave TV.

You have so much to enjoy if it all sticks for you ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

    @jsq I don't feel quite as negative about it, but it definitely isn't as solid as it used to be. I do agree that I would find it hard to move elsewhere, but we're obviously not who they care about anymore...

    Weird bug Iโ€™ve never seen with any previous iPhone Iโ€™ve owned: my iPhone 15 Pro stopped charging over USB-C. Tried multiple cables, multiple chargers, nothing.

    Powered the iPhone off and back on, and itโ€™s back to normal. But I canโ€™t recall ever seeing an iPhone refuse to charge before. (iOS 17.0.3.)

    @gruber Iโ€™ve seen that in the past with lightning devices. I think my iPad Pro 9.7" and one of my old iPhones. Fix was the same and it was exceptionally rare in occurrence.

    @ivory I bought stickers, but I'm not the biggest fan of Cotton Bureau as I think their product selection is lacking (everyone seems to use them so I must be in the minority). Would love to buy a hat, but neither option they present would be good for me ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

    @gedeonm Yep, Netflix has been gone for a bit here.IMO, itโ€™s just overpriced for the content/features they have. Iโ€™ve still got lots of services, but Netflix no longer makes the cut.

    From where I sit, trading the simple mute switch for the iPhone 15โ€™s overly complicated, multi-action, shortcut programable thing is indicative of all modern software. Unnecessary feature creep and complexity just for the sake of it.

    This has been my grumpy old man moment of the day.

    @gedeonm Sorry, can't agree with this one. The mute switch was always bad. Should have always been controlled in software. Back when I took a brief detour to Android, I ๐Ÿ’™ the choice to switch my phone to silent/vibrate via location-based automation (I hope this works on the new iPhones). The switch, by contrast, feels archaic. Can't wait to be rid of it. I just don't know if it will be via an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 16 Pro at this pointโ€ฆ

    The teamโ€™s been hard at work on v1.4 and we finally completed and submitted it to the AppStore. Will be out with the release of Sonoma tomorrow.

    I really didnโ€™t think wallpaper widgets would be something Iโ€™d want to customize my Home Screen with but I was wrong.

    Pretty neat that you can do stuff like this. v1.4 also has some other nice improvements too. Stay tuned, this is gonna be fun! https://wallaroo.app

    @gedeonm Wonderful improvement, but sadly I tripped over the caveat. At least I was warned as I tend to use Astronomy for the Lock Screen. Guessing this may be an iOS limitation out of your control?

    @gedeonm I can understand an issue switching the dynamic lock screen to a normal wallpaper (although it should work), but a non-dynamic home screen can't be changed if the lock screen is dynamic. Just seems an odd miss for them, but given where it started with the new lock screen functionality, this is still an improvement ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

    After two years, yesterday I stepped down as PTA head at my kidsโ€™ school. Helping run events and meetings matters, but the thing Iโ€™m most proud of was raising $25,000 to help two Afghan girls move to the UK and access the free, high-quality education they were denied at home.

    @twostraws Sadly, no target is easier than an ignorant judgment or prejudice that they can invent in their own mind. No work (or education/thinking) required.

    I never have understood why some care so much? Even if they thought those acts had no worth (which they obviously do), why should they pester you about them. How does you following your own heart affect unrelated others in the slightest? It just seems like a waste of energy to harass you like thatโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ˜•
