I have a question for experts in Roses.

The leaves of my roses were fine before I started to deadhead the dying roses.

After doing this I noticed caterpillars ate the leaves.

My question is: does deadheading the roses attract the caterpillars? If yes what should be done about it?

@gardening

bluedragon,
@bluedragon@masto.yttrx.com avatar

@compost @gardening not a rose expert but I doubt it. Caterpillars gonna caterpillar. If you are deadheading it means they didn't get all the buds which is great. Some really like to burrow in and eat the buds. Be dilligent in picking them off and you will get more flowers.

Hi… what is there to see as a tourist in or around ?! Particularly:

x nature-related things, like natural parks with moose
x good vegetarian/ vegan restaurants
x a nice cinema

Thanks / Merci! 🇨🇦

@VE2UWY @elduvelle a few years ago a moose did swim across to the island of Montreal so don't give up hope. As for easier to plan stuff to do in Montreal; walk (or bike) on the St Laurence by Verdun beach. Get crispy mushrooms at Chu Chai. Go see a French movie at Cinema Beaubien and have a vegan croissant at nearby cafe dei campi (only on weekends). Bota Bota in the old port (expensive but worth it, great views). Falafel Yoni. Ecomuseum in Ste Anne (may have moose) https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbc.ca/amp/1.939805

Such a weird experience. A recruiter reached out to me about a job. I met with them and they actively discouraged me from applying. "Pay isn't enough. Isn't the kind of work you are interested in. You don't seem excited, don't bother going for an interview."
Its extra weird because recruiters often approach me abt jobs that are wildly inappropriate for me. But this job was kinda interesting. I've never gone so far as to meet with a recuiter before. Don't think I'll do it again.

I doubt this will reach many interested folks, but I do have two snakes for sale from my private collection - a Hog Island boa and a ball python. both are chill animals who eat frozen/thawed prey reliably.

wisdom tooth extraction tomorrow. any tips? I've taken the day off work to feel sorry for myself.

bluedragon,

@senanthic everyone is responding like you are the one having the tooth extracted which makes more sense than what I thought. I came to say "for the love of God don't attempt to do a wisdom tooth extraction based on advice from the internet!" Either way, though, good luck.

Gardeners: do you have recommendations for reputable resources/experts on planting seeds directly in the soil? I’m in USDA zone 7B with a last frost of April 15 (probably a little earlier this year) and I don’t have energy to start seeds inside and transplant them. They will go into raised metal beds prepared with quality soil and an in-bed vermicompost system. Thank you. Also open to suggestions for hashtags and groups.

bluedragon,
@bluedragon@masto.yttrx.com avatar

@ImmedicableME @gardening what are you trying to find out? Sounds like you have a nice set-up. Could you dig some compost in, buy some seeds and plants rated for your zone and enjoy? You can find stuff online but if you walk around your neighborhood there is bound to be some chatty neighbour elvow deep in their garden who will talk your ear off, share seeds and probably leave seedlings on your front porch at night if you aren't careful. (Not that I have ever done any of those things).

bought headphones today. As usual, clerk offers to sell me warranty then tells me, without it Staples will not refund or exchange once box opened, even if they are defective. I say "I don't think that is legal." She shows me on the bill "headphones cannot be returned." Says "that's the law of Staples"
But I am right. The consumer protection act says regardless of merchant policy the must exchange refund or repair defective goods https://www.opc.gouv.qc.ca/en/consumer/topic/exchanging-layaways/refunding/goods/defective-goods/

House smells like latkes this am. Arms covered in tiny oil burns. Knuckles have little shredded spots. All signs point to a hannukah party last night.
40 potatoes, 8 eggs and 8 onions, 4 cups of matzah meal, 2 cups of vegetable gravy, 1 wheel of camembert, 1 teeeeeny jar of caviar (herring) = latke-poutine for 60 hungry party people.
Latke-poutine is the traditional seasonal dish of the Jews of (at least this one).

i have been working on my first starter ever and fiding it tough going. It has been bout 3 months. It only ever rises a tiny bit and when I have tried to make bread with it, it gets nice and sour but hardly rises. I feed it whole grain wheat or whole grain rye. Any tips for a newbie to get a livlier starter?
