@bosquebill@techhub.social

Retired electronics engineer, New Mexico USA, who loves birding, biking, boondocking, baseball, and Beethoven. Amateur landscape/wildlife photographer. He/him. "Bosque" has 2 syllables.

I mostly post my photos of nature & landscapes.

If you are interested in more photos, see links below.

I delete my non-media posts after about 1 day.

I filter out FIS WC results, youtube links & birdsite RTs.

My system can't display .webp photos.

Version 4.2 has made my Mastodon web experience sub-optimal on Safari.

First I noticed the posts column flashing/jerking and redrawing when scrolling. Just awful.

Next I noticed I wasn't getting notifications, then realized I wasn't getting pushes for notifications at all—I have to reload the page.

Now I find I cannot edit the Advanced Interface columns: no "x" to close a column and the hamburger does nothing.

All this so someone somewhere can do a search on our posts. Sigh.

Pronghorn
Capulin Volcano National Monument, NM

These denizens of the western plains are mistakenly called antelope by most folks. There are no true antelope native to north America.

This mom and young lack the eponymous horns and are looking back at me poking my camera out my truck window.

Valley of the Gods, UT

This is from my very first visit to this amazing place. I was in such awe I only managed to take a couple photos. I've since been back many, many times and have many, many wonderful photos (some of which I've already shared here and more to come, I'm sure.)

Remember friends, if the Prize Patrol calls you to tell you you've won, it's a scam. Those calls are making the rounds again.

Looking Out
Shoin Building at the Japanese Garden
Van Nuys, CA

Do these floor to ceiling open panels qualify for I wonder? I will assume so. A beautiful garden to visit if you're in the Valley (though many areas are now undergoing restoration work.)

Rio Grande
Old Alameda Bridge

On my bike ride yesterday the cottonwoods were orange and the river was low. Five Canada Geese were looking for tidbits. Clouds from a small system that passed through far to the north.

Morning at the Crane Pools
Bosque del Apache NWR, NM

Over two dozen Sandhill Cranes are standing in the icy pool—they spend the night there as protection against predators, such as coyote. Around them are many, many Snow Geese who also spent the night here. Very soon all will take to the sky to head off to forage in the neighboring fields.

Atsinna Ruins
El Morro National Monument, NM

A scenic walk up a narrow trail to butte of Inscription Rock leads to these ruins. The trail then loops back to the visitor center. Not to be missed if you visit the monument.

Dark-eyed Junco
Albuquerque, NM

I spotted the first junco of the season in my yard this morning (not pictured.) Always a harbinger of winter as the little birds move down from higher elevations.

OK. Finished moving all my data out of Dropbox. Didn't have anything current in there anyway. No interest in having my info training an AI (despite their later protestations to the contrary.) Sheesh.

Long House
Bandelier National Monument, NM
[very tall photo]

A Bandelier photo from a different location than yesterday's. This view shows the Long House ruins at the foot of rhyolite tuff cliffs. Look carefully and you may see horizontal rows of holes carved in the cliff to support roof beams. See the link for more info:

Amazing stone ruins attributed to ancient puebloan peoples line this one small canyon well off the beaten track in SE Utah.

@ai6yr You started a thread on bike helmets back in the mists of time. One respondent mentioned Bell and Gyro will send free replacement pads. I looked inside my helmet to see model/size and discovered the mfg date of 2011. <hand hitting forehead emoji> I've ordered a new helmet.

I just don't get the obsession with Route 66, I guess. Yet another campaign has launched to preserve the memories, etc. $$ are spent marking the old route, etc. Chasing the shrinking geriatric tourist base maybe?

Hell, I'm old, old, old and can barely remember US-66. I bet it was long gone and replaced by I-40 before most folks were even born.

Golden Hour
Chaco Culture National Historic Park, NM

Yes, you owe it to yourselves to visit this beautiful desert canyon filled with more amazing sights than you would have thought before you visited. It's far enough off the beaten path that you can enjoy a surrounded by the remains of a vast culture. I took this photo on my way to the campground after a wonderful day exploring the canyon.

** Humid **

Maybe not unusual for many areas, but 71%RH in the central Rio Grande Valley is crazy. Dewpoint over 61ºF.

I was taking photos of flowers in my garden (to be posted tomorrow) when I realized I was dripping in sweat even though it was on 70ºF. Yikes.

Q: any reason to pay the premium for a genuine Arduino Uno rather than a compatible board with good reviews?
